He did, though, and his 30 pound - 2 ounce, 43V2 inch long fish has now been officially tabbed by Game Department fish biologists as the new winter-run record, and the third largest steelhead ever caught from Washington waters. English tied into his prize of a lifetime at a popular plunking hole just below the waterline crossing, on the Skagit near Sedro Woolley. The record fish took a pearl spin-n-glow. Two larger Washington fish, 31 and 33 pounders, were both taken from the Snake river and were summer-runs. They were undoubtedly bound for the Clearwater river, in Idaho, a tributary of the Snake. The Clearwater is known for its "race" of unusually large summer-run steelhead. A 35% pound "Clearwater" steelhead was caught this summer on the Columbia river, below McNary Dam. It was caught, however, by an Oregon fisherman who claimed the trophy for his home state. The world's record steelhead of 42 pounds was also caught this summer. It was landed by a Seattle teenager while fishing for salmon off Rivers Inlet. 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 Shelton Junior ttigh's grappling squad lost its first meet of the year last Thursday when they were downed 46-24 by a tough Chehalis squad on the Blazers' mats.
