County rodeo court will be crowned Saturday RODEO:Shindig Jndudes coronation, dinner, auction STAFF REPORT pr@masoncounty, com Three young women will vie for three positions on the Mason County Rodeo Court at the llth annual Shin- dig at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Shelton Civic Center, 525 W. Cota St. Admission to the fundraiser is $10, and includes dinner, a dessert auc- tion, a live auction and raffles. Members of the three-person court will travel throughout the West to promote the rodeo at events. They will also reign over the Mason County Rodeo and the Mason Area Fair. The candidates for junior princess are sisters Maleaha and Mikayla Smith, and Crystal Hart is seeking to be crowned queen. Mikayla Smith Mikayla Smith, a sophomore at Elma High School, is the daughter of Mitch- ell and Bobbi Smith. She serves as an offi- cer with the school's Associated Student Body and National FFA Organization Club. She has quali- fled for the state and national level in poultry science for FFA. Mikayla maintains a GPA of 3.8, and takes advanced classes in Eng- lish, math and science. She qualified for the state fair in gaming on her horse, Cinch. She is a member of the Elma High School equestrian team, and the Country Pride 4-H Club. She is a ski racer for the White Pass Ski Club. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her personal watercraft, boating, fishing and camping. Mikayla's sis- ter Maleaha is an eighth-grader at Elma Middle School, where she is active in student leader- ship, Knowledge Bowl and the Honor Society. She has two horses, Daisy and Maleaha Smith Sis. Maleaha has qualified for the state fair in perfor- mance and gaming. She is a mem- ber of the Country Pride 4-H Club. She enjoys snow skiing, camping, boating and spending time with her friends. Hart, 21, is the daughter of Eddie and Cherie Hart of Poulsbo. She gradu- ated from Kingston High School. She earned an associ- ated of arts degree from Olympic Col- Crystal Hart lege, and a mas- sage therapy li- cense from the Port Townsend School of Massage. She attends the International Air and Hospitality Academy in Vancouver, Wash. Hart's titles have included Silver Spur Club princess, Northwest Ju- nior Rodeo Association queen, Miss Thunderbird Pro Rodeo and the 2012 Miss Kitsap Fair and Stam- pede. The three women begin their day at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Red Barn in Arcadia, with the horsemanship pattern, queen run and flag presen- tation. At noon, the three will meet with judges for lunch and interviews. At 5 p.m., they will give their speech- es, model and answer questions at the Civic Center.
