Calling the past winter of athletic competition perhaps the finest in Climber history, emcee Chet Dombroski turned over the mike to each coach to give a brief synopsis of his or her respective season. Boys' basketball Coach Terry Gregg, acknowledging a standing ovation for his team's state championship, conceded there were a few times during the course of the season when he felt "like just walking off the court" - when things weren't going quite as outlined. "But I always knew this team could win the state championship," he said. "I wasn't sure they would win it until we'd made it past regionals and we'd started.to really gel as a team, but I always knew they had the potential to do it." Gregg also lauded the fans' support - especially during the electrifying," he said. Girls' basketball, though without the boys' laurels, advanced mentally and emotionally throughout its first season at Shelton. "We may not be number one in the state or number one in the district or even number one in the league," said Coach Sue Hanson, "but we are the number one girls' basketball team at Shelton High School." The girls won one game during the season, but two juniors, three sophomores and a freshperson comprise next year's nucleus, so the girls look for vast improvement. Swimming Coach Doug Hanna called his "probably the most successful swim team in Shelton High School history." The team overcame a 1-4 start to finish 5-5 on the year, won her young (o3y one ==nim) charges to first place in the Black Hills, second at dbtrict and sixth place at the mKlonah. Three of her gizh went on to compete at state. "We look to be very, very strong next year," she said. Wrestling Coach Dick Wentz, also calling his mon the best ever at SheRon, praised the outstanding team cohedvene of his athletes - an attflbute which proved immensely important, despite the fact that wrestling is an individual sport. The Climber grapplers dmred fnst pce in the BIIL, took the district crown outright, sent seven to the chamonddps and came away with a thud and sixth in state. Of the 17 award-winning athletes, five won't be 8raduating for at least another year. 1Barry subdistrict, t'oo-kan-:Coehranbjust afrmlmmw%.i unprecedented fifth at the Pavel, junior; Klm GoTby, district meet and sent six of its junior; Nlcki Schouvtiler, ranks to the state championships, sophomore; and Matt Kamin, Judy Keeley, coach of the sophomore. We're not talking about a credit plan but about a fact-of-life when it comes to engine maintenance. The longer a relatively small job, such as replacing these main bearings, is postponed, the better the chances are that it will turn into a big job later. When one small part goes gunnysack, it can result in serious damage to very expensive parts around it. Replacing it on time can mean the difference of paying a little now or a lot more later.
