Warnes Dad's Song: "Grandpa, tell me about the good ole days, in the garden..." Alvie G. Wames, 75, a 57 year resident of Shelton, died May 31, 2014, in Shelton. He was bom November 14, 1938, to Arnold and Amanda Wames of Merced, California, and lived in Dos Palace, California. He moved to Oakville in 1951, graduating from Oakville High School in 1957 and moved to Shelton in 1957 to work at Camp Grisdale. He later married Frances Fisk on October 3, 1958 in Oakville, Washington. Alvie spent 4 years in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He was also an active member of the Shelton Moose Lodge, a Govemor, held the Fellowship degree, loved bowling, and was a hall-of-fame member in the lodge. He loved the outdoors and worked at Simpson Timber Company for 43 years, retiring in 2000. Alvie is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Amanda (Scott) Wames; siblings, Henry and Rose Wames, Lillian Wames (Mayfield, Russ), Rozella Wames (May, Willard), Donald Wames, Elnora Wames; children Roxanne Wames, Rita Wames, Richard Wames and Cathy Wmes. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Wames of Shelto8 W-a&;,,--,,. Sister Gina Munro (mce); daughters Dorene J. Wood (Randy) and Juanita J. Warnes of Shelton, Washington, and Tina Warnes of Wenatchee, Washington; son, Michael G. Wames of Wenatchee, Washington; granddaughter, Colina M. Hirzel (Jesse) and Cristy L. Knight (Robert) of Shelton, Washington, and Rebecca Wames and Charlotte Warnes (Matt) of Olympia, Washington; grandsons, Curtis A. Wood and Alan D. and Rosemary Wames of Shelton, Washington, Jimmie C. Solorzano (Michelle) of McCleary, Washington, Marshall Wames and Colmor Warnes of Wenatchee, Washington, Michael Wames and Elijah Wames of Olympia, Washington; 5 great-grandchildren, Michael, RuthAnne, Robert, Abbie, Makenna and Peyton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Claussen, 80, a resident of Shelton, died June 1, 2014. He was born March 13, 1934, to John and Adela Claussen in Bloomfield, Nebraska. Harold served in the Army from March 2, 1954, to March 1, 1962. He was a specialist (E-4) on discharge. He married Janice Crawford on June 11, 1956, in Tacoma. The marriage ended with her death in 2000. Harold worked on oil wells, was a golf course foreman, owned Jan's Second Hand and was a foreman for Kirk's Christ- mas Trees. He was a member of the Moose club, and en- joyed fishing and spend- ing time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by sons Randy (Linda) Claussen of Shelton, Terry Claussen of Shel- ton and Larry Claussen of Shelton; daughter Carla (Rich) McKnight of Winlock; brothers Patti (Karen) Claussen, Robert (Kathy) Claussen and Doug (Karen) Claussen; sisters Ruby Hammer, Velda (Jim) Lang and Dane (Eldon) Fleming; sister-in-laws Mary Ann (Dick) Holmquist, Frieda Lemke, Ardis Claussen and JeAnne Claussen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Janice; granddaughter Tonya Claussen: d .... Edgar Suriya Edgar Suriya, 70, died April 7, 2014, in Ana- heim, California. He was born May 4, 1944, to Robert and Ivy Wickeremasuriya in Sin- gapore. He was the fifth of 12 children. He graduated from Bible College in Malaysia, where he was elected class speaker. He then came to the United States to continue his education at Northwest University, later earning his master's and doctorate degrees from Vision Christian University. He was the senior pastor at churches in Australia, Idaho, Wash- ington and California, a missionary to Malaysia and Vietnam, and taught in churches and colleges worldwide. Edgar came from a musical family. He loved to sing and learned to play piano and guitar by ear rather than reading music. He enjoyed boxing and cooking, and love ,onopoly. Arrangements are by McComb & Wagner Funer- al Home and Crematory. Stephen Hoogstins Stephen Hoogstins, 56, of Shelton, died May 27, 2014, at Capital Medical Center in Olympia. He was born June 18, 1957, to Peter and Mary (Edwards) Hoogstins. Stephen worked for Taylor Shellfish Farms and was an NRA member. He is survived by brothers Charles Hill of Port Angeles and Dennis Hoogstins of Evansville, Indiana; and sister Mara- lyn Disnman of San Diego. He was preceded in death by wife Tami, sister Arlene Moll and his parents. Arrangements were by Forest Funeral Home of Shelton. Joseph Swanson Joseph Swanson, 65, a lifetime resident of Shel- ton, died June 1, 2014, in Shelton. He was born to John and Dorothy Swanson on April 28, 1949, in Shelton. Joseph served ,.'n t,',,, Navy from 1967 to 1969 and was an SA E-2 on discharge. He married Jennie Thornburg on Aug. 6, 1977, in Poway, California. Joseph worked as a forklift driver and supervi- sor in the timber industry. He was an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners and collected sports memorabilia. He loved cooking, gar- dening and going to car shows. Joseph's family said his favorite expres- sion was "It is what it is." He is survived by wife Jay Dennis Jay Dennis, 88, a resi- dent of Hoodsport, died May 20, 2014, at home. He was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Trego, Wiscon- sin. He was married Oct. 7, 1944, in Lampson, Wisconsin, and ni-,,A --dj  fisl-fing and hunting. Jay is survived by chil- dren Jay Dennis and Kit Payne; daughter-in-law Tammy; son-in-law Ver- non Payne; and numer- ous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Angie and daughters Pat and Shirley. A memorial service was June 3.
