Two retire from Hiawatha Inc.

Hiawatha Inc. recently announced
the retirements of Joan V. Hayes
and Jude Enger.
Hayes, control-
ler / deputy secre-
tary, has worked
for the Shelton-
based evergreen
tree producer since
1978. She joined as
a part-time secre-
tary / bookkeeper,
and was promoted
Hayes to office manager
in 1984. She be-
came controller / deputy secretary
in 1998.
According to a
Hiawatha state-
ment, Hayes was
instrumental in
implementing its
accounting system
and supervised the
growth of the com-
pany.
Enger Enger started
out with Hiawatha
doing data entry, then moved into
payroll. She eventually worked in
accounts payable, and spent the
past 10 years as the company's
inventory "high priestess." She
worked for the company for 24
years.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society gives grant

Kappa Gamma Society
International recently
awarded a $600 grant
to a Hood Canal School
District employee.
Giovanna Mc-
Cullough, a site coor-
dinator for the district,
oversees Hood Canal's
after-school programs.
She's also completing an
internship at Evergreen
Elementary School un-
der the supervision of
school counselors.
McCullough, a grad-
uate student at Walden
University, is also a stu-
dent at Saint Martin's
University, where she's
in the school counseling
certification program.
Shelton alumna receives scholarship
at Eastern Washington University

Cassidy Schreiber from Shelton
has been awarded a Trustee's Schol-
arship of $3,000 for the 2014-15 aca-
demic year at Eastern Washington
University.
The Trustee's Scholarship is
awarded to a continuing EWU stu-
dent with a 3.8 GPA.
At Eastern, Cassidy is a fresh-
man pursuing an athletic training
degree.
She is also a member of the EWU
marching band and symphonic
band.
While at Shelton High, she was a
member of the marching, jazz, and or-
chestra bands.
She is the daughter of Gary and
Cynthia Schreiber of Shelton.

Mark Reed scholarships awarded

Eight students were recently
awarded 2014 Mark E. Reed Schol-
arships from the Green Diamond Re-
ource Co.
Recipients include Rayna Ash-
lock, a 2014 graduate of Montesano
High School who plans to attend Ore-
gon State University; Megan Custis,
a 2013 graduate of Elma High School
who is a sophomore at the University
of Arizona; Chaz Martinez, a 2014
EHS graduate who attends South
Puget Sound Community College;
Kathryn Myers, a 2011 graduate of
Shelton High School who is majoring
in biology at the University of Wash-
ington; Sara Myers, a 2013 graduate
of SHS, who is studying history and
global studies at Pacific Lutheran
University; twin sisters Meghan and
Serena Ranney who both plan to
attend Washington State University
in the fall; and Logan Zepp, a 2013
EHS graduate who attends the Uni-
versity of Idaho.
Each winner received a $3,000
scholarship. On June 5, the recipients
toured Green Diamond Resource Co.
land and attended a dinner celebra-
tion at the Colonial House in Shelton.
The scholarships have been award-
ed for 67 years. Mark E. Reed was
Simpson Logging Co. president from
1914 until his death in 1933.
Students eligible for the scholar-
ships must be Green Diamond em-
ployees, sons or daughters of employ-
ees, or live in one of Green Diamond's
operating communities.
