However, she also worried she
would be using a wheelchair by the
time of her high school graduation.
"To finally be here at gradua-
tion has been a miracle," she said.
"It's OK to be different ... You have
the power to achieve anything you
want."
Collins continued his four-year
tradition of giving out Bulldog Pride
awards to a parent and teacher he felt
were instrumental in helping the se-
nior class graduate.
"I wish I could bring each one of
them up to honor them," he told the
Mason County Journal.
Collins presented parent Jeannie
Wilson with the first award. Wilson
volunteers with the North Mason
High School band and the band boost-
er club, and is a substitute teacher at
the school.
"She does it all for them," he said.
Collins presented teacher Mike
Gastineau, who retired at the end of
this school year, with the second Bull-
dog Pride award.
Gastineau has taught career and
technical education classes at the
school for 12 years and was a senior
adviser this year.
"Kids love him," Collins said.
Collins also recognized Superinten-
dent David Peterson, who attended
the ceremony along with the North
