State accuses Shelton doctor of unprofessional conduct STAFF REPORT news@masoncoun com A Shelton physician specializing in internal medicine and anesthe- siology has been accused with un- professional conduct by the state Department of Health's Medical Quality Assurance Commission. According to a statement of charges by the commission, Dr. Leonard H. Albert inappropriately prescribed narcotic pain relievers to 10 patients dating back to 2007. The commission filed the state- ment of charges in April. Albert has been licensed as a physician and surgeon in Washing- ton since July 1977. He has offices at 2026 Olympic Highway N. in Shelton. According to RCW 18.130.180, unprofessional conduct means "incompetence, negligence or mal- practice which results in injury to a patient or which creates an un- reasonable risk that a patient may be harmed." Albert was previously accused with unprofessional conduct in 1999, also regarding the prescribing of prescription pain medications. He was required to participate in a two- week course on chronic pain at the University of Washington, write a paper on what he learned and have his practice monitored for two years. In 2003, Albert was cited by the commission for failing to comply with the disciplinary order from 1999. He was fined $1,000 and in- structed to follow the terms of the previous order. In 2005, Albert's license was ad- ministratively reinstated.
