County seeks comment on housing program County residents will have an opportunity next week to comment on a Mason County proposal to designate targeted areas for a multifamily housing incentive program. The public hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. July 15 at the county's commission chambers at 411 N. Fifth Street. The Mason County Board of Commissioners plans to create a tax incentive program to encourage af- fordable multifamily housing. The program would offer developers an eight-year tax break. In order to create the program, the commission must determine areas of the county to allow the tax exemption, known as Residential Targeted Areas. The areas must lack sufficient residential housing and must be within the county's urban growth areas and must be served by public sewer. For more information, call Barbara Adkins at 427-9670.
