Thursday, July 24, 2014 - Mason County Journal - Page A-9 ansas Apple named adviser of the year STAFF REPORT news@masoncounty, com Eight students in the Shelton Students Against Destructive De- cisions (SADD)club and two adults attended the National Student Safe- ty Program conference July 9-15 in Wichita, Kansas. The club members put on a workshop on bullying. They also talked about the club's major projects, which include educating people about the dangers of texting and driving, the Lit- tle Stars program for first-graders and the program Celebrate My Drive. The facilitators for the workshop were the club's co-presidents, Katie Albaugh and Danielle Salinas and treasurer. Alec Dodge. The other students who attended the conference are Jessica Thomas, Natacia Campos, Madi- lyn Bariekman, Gabe Woods and Lanna Kelt- ner. The adult chaper- ones were Shelley Sali- nas and adviser Gerald Apple. The club won second place awards for T-shirt design and best club. The group earned first place for its project of the year, a rap song and video about problem gambling. Apple was named national adviser of the year. Dodge was nomi- nated by the club as the national student of the year.
