Thursday, JulY 31,2014 - Mason County Journal - Page B-5 r STAFF REPORT news@masoncounty, com The Washington De- partment of Natural Resources (DNR) this week announced the publication of three up- dated maps detailing roads, property bound- aries, trails, recreation sites and other infor- mation about public lands. The updated maps, which are available for purchase, are Forks (the Olympic Peninsula), Hermiston (the Colum- bia Gorge) and Chehalis River (Southwest Wash- ington). Public Lands Quad- rangle maps produced by DNR are popular with hunters, back- country hikers and others who use public lands for outdoor recre- ation. The maps also are used by emergency re- sponders. Each full-color print- ed map shows the land- scape in a 1:100,000 scale (1 inch equals ap- proximately 1.6 miles) and covers an area of about 1,600 square miles. Featuring shaded relief to indicate ter- rain, the maps show highways, roads, trails, water features, wildlife areas and other key fea- tures. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts can use the maps to locate pub- lic lands managed by DNR, Washington De- partment of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), State Parks and Recreation Commission, and lands managed by federal and other public agencies. The maps can be bought online or in per- son between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from the Wash- ington state Department of Printing, 7580 New Market St. SW, Tumwa- ter, WA 98501. aunt in will STAFF REPORT news@masoncoun com The Skokomish Park boat launch site in Hoodsport will be closed Aug. 5 and 6 to accommodate work on Tacoma Power's new sockeye hatch- ery.
