Critical violations and noncritical violations are listed, and are assigned a point value based on their seriousness. Critical violations, if left uncor- rected, are more likely to lead to food contamina- tion or foodborne illness. Noncritical violations do not directly relate to caus- ing foodborne illnesses but could hinder the operation of the restaurant. Estab- lishments are typically inspected once or twice each year.
