Sheriff's d puty hits

A 22-year-old Shelton pedestrian was
injured Friday night after being hit by a
Mason County Sheriffs Deputy's patrol
vehicle.
The Washington State Patrol is inves-
tigating the incident.
According to an incident report from
the State Patrol, the sheriffs deputy
was driving west at 10:36 p.m. on Rail-
road Avenue approaching North Eighth
Street.
The pedestrian; described as wear-
ing dark clothing, began walking
south across the crosswalk after look-
ing both ways and seeing the patrol
vehicle approach, according to the
State Patrol.
The deputy's vehicle struck the pedes-
trian in the center of the crosswalk, ac-
cording to the State Patrol.
The pedestrian was injured and taken
to Mason General Hospital.
The deputy was not injured and his
vehicle had nonreportable damage.
It is unknown whether drugs or alco-
hol played a role in the accident, accord-
ing to the State patrol.
No other information from the State
Patrol was available as of press time.
The deputy involved has not been
placed on administrative leave, accord-
ing to the Sheriffs Office.
Mason County Sheriff Casey Salis-
bury declined to comment on the matter
until the investigation is complete.
The cause of the incident is still under
investigation.
