A bipartisan bill intended to help
Americans save more money is head-
ed to the president's desk for a sig-
nature.
The American Savings Promotion
Act, which U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer
(D-Gig Harbor) introduced passed
the House in September and the Sen-
ate earlier this month. It would al-
low banks nationwide to offer prize-
linked savings accounts.
"I'm :pleased that Congress actu-
ally approved a bipartisan bill that
helps more families save money,"
Kilmer told the Journal last week. "I
think one of the things I'm most ex-
cited about is it's an idea both Demo-
crats and Republicans were able to
get behind."
While in the state Legislature,
Kilmer, whose 6th District includes
most of Mason County, successfully
worked to pass a bill to allow Wash-
ington state financial institutions to
offer prize-linked savings accounts.
