DIGEST nu By DEAN SIEMON While most high school students would say that math is their least favor- ite subject, Shelton High School senior Morgan Earsley said the opposite, and is interested in pursu- ing a degree in accounting. "I love numbers and I've taken an accounting class and I just loved it," Ears- ley said. Currently under the high school's Running Start program, which al- lows students to take college courses towards an Associate's Degree, Earsley said she has tak- en higher level courses through Olympic College, including Calculus. "I'm doing half time here and half time there [Olympic College]," she said. Earsley said she is de- bating between attending Washington State Univer- sity in Pullman or West- ern Washington Univer- sity in Bellingham. "Wazzu [Washington State University] has always been my dream school that I've always wanted to go to," she said. "But Western has the best accounting program in the state. So it's like 'Do I go with the better education or the school I've always wanted to go to?'" Earsley said she has scheduled visits to both school this month to see "what they offer." In addition to majoring in accounting, Earsley is interested in a minor in business management. "They kind of go hand in hand," she said. When asked if she would use the business management minor to work towards owning her own accounting firm, Earsley said she would rather work for a larger firm. She used her job shad- ow with an accountant for the PUD 3 in Shelton as an example of what she would like to do. "She was just in charge of the finances and all that and I liked that," Ears- ley said. "I wouldn't want nl Morgan Earsley to be in charge of several companies." As a student at SHS, Earsley has been the ap- pointed "tech guru" by Students Against Destruc- tive Decisions (S.A.D.D.), updating the website and Facebook account. "I wanted to be more in- volved in different things at school," she said. "I re- ally liked what [S.A.D.D.] stands for." Earsley was also ap- pointed "spirit officer" by the SHS dance team dur- ing her third and final year with the team. "Everyone always said I'm super spirited," she said. "We never really had a spirit officer before. I got elected I guess you can say." As the schools Key Club vice president, Earsley used the club's annual blood drive as her senior project. The drive took place on campus on De- cember 17, before students went on winter break. "We had trouble trying to plan the right date that would work for the school and the blood center," Earsley said. Earsle: said she en- joys the small town atmo- sphere in Mason County and doesn't think she could live in a bigger city. "I probably will stay close to home," she said. "I don't want to move to a big town." New number Shelton Drag Strips phone number has changed to 229-9309.
