Abelein
Dell M. Abelein, 75, died
November 30, 2010 at his
home at Alpine Way Retire-
ment Center.
He was
born Sep-

Abelein After his
father died
in 1946, he and his mother
moved to Bellingham to be
near her sisters. His family
states that he remembers
getting off the train in Ever-
ett on a gray, foggy day and
hearing the seagulls, which
he had never heard before,
much different from his na-
tive North Dakota.
He attended college at
Western Washington Uni-
versity in Bellingham where
he majored in elementary
education.
After graduation he decid-
ed to go into the military and
joined the army. Most of his
service was spent as a clerk-
typist for Fort Harrison, Ind.
Following discharge from
the Army, he was offered a
teaching job in Shelton by
the Superintendent of Shel-
ton schools, Rudy Oltman,
where he taught seventh
and eighth grades for just
short of 30 years until his re-
tirement.
In retirement, he volun-
teered as a reading and math
tutor at Bordeaux elementa-
ry and other schools within
the district. He had an un-
canny ability to remember
numbers his family said.
He enjoyed photography
and walking for exercise. He
had worked as a soda foun-
tain clerk in Yellowstone
while attending college and
because of that experience
he spent the next 35 sum-
mers working at Yellowstone
Park at the Canyon Valley
Store and Old Faithful.
He was active in the
Shelton United Methodist
Church where he served as
head usher for 25 years. He
also Was head of the prayer
chain, a member of a bible
study group and was in-
volved with the church food
bank. He belonged to the
retired teacher's associa-
tion and Kristmas Town Ki-
'wanis club, serving as their
club secretary for a number
of years. He later joined
the Shelton Kiwanis Club
and was active in all of its
projects such as the annual
pancake breakfast, Missoula
Children's Theatre and also
served as the Shelton Ki-
wanis club secretary for sev-
eral years.
Many cousins and friends
survive him.
A celebration of his life
will be held at 11 a.m. on
January 15, 2011 at the
Shelton United Methodist
Church.

Floyd D.
"Bogey"
Borgaard
Floyd D. "Bogey" Bor-
gaard, 86, died December 21,
2010, at home in Grapeview.
He was born August 31,
1924, in Eugene, Ore to
Ethel (Hise) and Fred Bor-
gaard.
He graduated from Junc-
tion City High School in
1941, and at age 17, joined
the Marine Corps. He served
with the Fourth Division in
the Pacific Theatre in the
Hawaiian Islands and Mar-
shall Islands including Eni-
wetok, Saipan and Tinian in
road construction and as ar-
tillery truck driver. He was
honorably discharged No-
vember 19, 1945.
He married Shirley Irene
Stingley on August 4, 1946,
in Castle
Rock.
T h e
couple
made their
home in
Cheshire,
Ore. where
he worked
Floyd D. as a truck
driver in
Borgaard the area.
They moved to Castle Rock
in 1959, where they owned
the Oasis and Pastime tav-
erns until 1977. He later
drove log truck and dump
truck for Castle Rock compa-
nies before retiring in 1986.
They moved to Grapeview
in 1987.
His wife, Shirley, a
daughter, Janet Borgaard
and a sister, Virginia Herr,
preceded him in death.
Two sons and daughters-
in-law, Jerry and Cheryll
Borgaard of Castle Rock and
Mikel and Katie Borgaard of
Vancouver, five grandchil-
dren and six great-grand-
children survive him.
A gathering of family and
friends to celebrate his life
will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Grape-
view Fire Hall and Commu-
nity Center. A gathering also
will be held in Castle Rock
on Sunday, Jan. 23.
In lieu of flowers, memo-
rial contributions may be
made to Catholic Commu-
nity Services, P.O. Box 1228,
Shelton, WA, 98584.
Cremation has taken
place under the direction of
Tuell-McKee Funeral home,
Bremerton.
Ann I. Cole
Ann I. Cole, 92, died De-
cember 29, 2010 at Provi-
dence Mother Josephs Care
Center in Olympia. She was
a resident of St. Francis
House, Olympia for 14 years.
She was born December
13, 1918 to Daniel and Mary

She attended Olympia
High School.
She was born and raised
in Olympia, where she met
and married Floyd C. Cole on
January 16, 1937 in Olym-
pia and moved to Shelton to
raise their family. They were
married until his death.
She married David Pa-
lumbo in 1985 in Olympia.
She was a homemaker
and also worked as a cook at
the Washington State Patrol
Academy and Mason Gen-
eral Hospital.
Cole was raised a Catho-
lic. She was very active in
the Shelton Kiwanis Club
and was
the first
woman
president
of her Ki-
wanis
chapter.
She was
very active
Ann I. Cole in many
charitable
events and political activi-
ties. Her family shared she
was a terrific baker and
cook. One of her greatest
achievements was winning
the regional bakeoff for Bet-
ter Homes and Gardens for a
quick bread. She enjoyed en-
tertaining, was very social,
family oriented and a lover
of animals.
She is survived by her
son Bruce Cole of Portland,
Ore.; daughters Fran Myers
(Tom) of Shelton and Carol
Rust (Dick) of Olympia; six
grandchildren, seven great-
grandchildren and numer-
ous nieces, nephews and
cousins.
She was preceded in
death by both husbands, one
brother and seven sisters.
A private family service
will be held at a later date.

DAVID WAYNC CASCY
David Wayne Casey, 55, died December 30, 2010 in
Shelton. He was a life long resident of Shelton.
He was born March 31, 1955 in Shelton to Kathrine
Miller and Cedric Casey.
He attended Irene S. Reed and graduated from Shel-
ton High School in 1973.
He was enrolled in a painter's apprenticeship pro-
gram and became a journeyman painter in 1975.
He was self-employed and owner of David Casey
Painting.
He married Susan (Michaels) Casey August 2, 1986
in Shelton.
He was respected for his Northwest Indian artwork
and involvement with restoration projects. His Twana
Indian name was "sib3taK3m" (pronounced si-buh-ti-
kum), which means "he who has the warmth of a hearth
fire, who is always welcoming and hospitable."
He assisted in the carving of a canoe for the Skokom-
ish Tribe. He also worked in collaboration with tribal
members on other works of art that are displayed at
The Evergreen State College, the Twin Totems Casino
and the Skokomish smokehouse (The House of Shlnay)
which was named after his grandmother Georgianna
Adams Miller.
He was a member of the Skokomish Tribe, Shelton
Presbyterian Church and the local painter's union in
Olympia. He coached soccer, basketball and baseball,
and last spring helped his son, John, coach T-ball for
his 5-year-old grandson's team. He enjoyed cooking,
gardening, reading and music, he also shared his native
culture with students from Pioneer School by drum-
ming, sharing songs and stories as well as supervising
a totem restoration project for the school.
He is survived by his wife Susan Casey; son John
Willson of Lacey; daughter Jessikaya Willson-
Mikhailenko-Gonzalez of Fort Sill, Okla.; brother Curt
Casey of Olympia; sister Genny Rodgers of Omak; six
grandchildren Azizah, Khalil and Saiid Mikhailenko-
Jones, Aurelio Gonzalez; Ivan and Liliana Willson and
numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and was the
grandson of Georgianna Adams and Fred Miller.
A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9,
2011, at the Shelton Presbyterian Church followed by a
Celebration of Life and dinner at the House of Shlnay
(the Skokomish smokehouse) at 4 p.m.
