As part of its effort to expand tile daytime humanities program,
Olympic College Extension Center in Shelton is offering English
60, a survey of American literature from colonial times to tile Civil
on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.nm. The course carries
:hree credits, and there are no prerequisites.
The class began yesterday, but there are openings and late
will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and
7riday, January 13, at the school at Fourth and Cedar Streets.
American Literature 260 will include an overview of a critical and
nalytical approach to American literature and the development of
American literary tradition.
Covered will be colonial literature, particularly the writings of
Puritan leaders as Bradstreet, Taylor, Mather and Edwards;
literature including some of the works of Franklin, Paine and
!efferson; and romantic literature including the work of
talists Emerson and Thoreau, the novels of Cooper,
and Melville, and the poetry of Longfellow, Poe and

Dystrophy fund drive
planned in the area

International Firefighters Union
will be putting out canisters in
business places this week for the
annual Muscular Dystrophy Fund
drive.

MAX SCHMIDT, JR. of Shelton has been reelected president of
the Washington Forest Protection Association for 1978. Schmidt is
manager of resources for the Washington division of the Simpson
Timber Company. President Schmidt, a native of the Shelton area
who joined Simpson Timber in 1948, has been active in WFPA for
more than 20 years.
