.THE CLASSIC (but hardly predictable) forward flip, by Blazer Yvonne Strachila. Playing without benefit of a single substitute the league-leading and defending Warren's 26 paces champs City Rec wants you! If you're a local sporting a fficionado with a talent for teaching, the Shelton Recreation Department may be looking for you. According to Director Ran Otto, the department is looking for qualified individuals to teach a variety of skills and activities, among them tumbling, playground leadership and tennis. According to Otto, inquiries concerning tumbling and individual skills teaching may be made to him at 426-2107. Applications may be picked up at Shelton City Hall. What the crowd does The crowd will follow a leader who marches twenty steps in advance; but if he is a thousand steps in front of them, they do not see and do not follow him, and any literary freebooter who chooses may shoot him with champion Lumbermen's basketball team got past ITT Rayonier 69-53 last Sunday in City League action. Warren Earl led the abbreviated team with 26 points while fellow starters Frank Schmidt, Steve DeMiero, Bob Miller and Bill Bingham added 18, 12, nine and four points, respectively. The defending champs had no one on the bench on whom to call in the event one of their starters tired, but ITT's ten-strong team still couldn't pull off the upset of the year. For ITT, Mike Fox led the way with 14 points, Jeff Christian and Jerry Mallory tossed in 11 points each, Denny Temple added nine, Jim Willis six and Dave Woracek two. John Friedhoff, Wally Ewart, Richard Buchholz and Roland Eisner all played nonscoring roles. In the only other game, Manke Lumber easily outclassed West Realty, scoring 51 points in the second half to West's 15 to win 83-41. Top gun for the victors was Drew Eken, with 30 points, while teammate Randy Lewis added 22. Mike Ashley canned 14, Terry Peterson 11, Rocky Nutt four and Darrel Andrews two. Bill Cox played but did not score. For the losers, Don Smith scored 15, Duane Bolser seven, Rich Wyatt six, Jay LeGault five, Bruce Pederson four, Ron Allen two and Reggie Snellgrove two. Darrell Barnes and Dave Krogh both played nonscoring roles. Don't Think Your Foreign Car Is Foreign To Every Repairman impunity. i: ::7-* Georg Brandes .... .... ]Jonsemds4s ! . ....... Shelton 421-4512 Open Monday thtu Saturday. 9:00 to S:O0 ) Valley swims to state berrr Shelton High's standout swimmer Eric Valley qualified for state competition and rewrote one of his own school records last week as the Climber swim team remained unbeaten in the league with a 93-79 victory over visiting Capital. Junior Valley's 2:08.6 first-place clocking Wednesday in the 200 IM not only erased his own Climber standard of 2:11.0 but earned him a trip to state as well, as he needed only a 2:09.5 to qualify. Valley, incidentally, holds three other individual school records as well. Senior teammate Dave Wicken also cracked a school record - his own in the 100-yard breaststroke event - by taking first Wednesday in 1:07.2. His old mark was 1:08.4. The state-qualifying mark, incidentally, is now only 1.3 seconds away from Wicken. Although the Climbers, now 3:0 atop the Black Hills, won only four of 11 events against the Cougars, it was their depth again that proved decisive. The Climbers had a crucial test last night in the Minidome when the Bears of Olympia paid them a dual-meet visit, and Hanna conceded it could easily go either way. Shelton hadn't beaten the Bears in eight years of dual meets. "But I think we have a good chance this time," said Hanna. Inasmuch as results were not available by press time, the I I HONDA outcome will be reported in next 4. Lloyd Haskins (S)1"3! week's Journal.
