Ida and Bob Randall held
their traditional "champagne
breakfast" on New Year's Day
for a large group of friends. The
reason that Bob and Ida don't
attend the New Year's dance is
that they spend several days
getting things ready for their
party and it really shows as the
food is fabulous.
Bobbi and Ben Petraitis, their
son Jamie and daughter Staci
traveled to Phoenix, Arizona and
Silver City, New Mexico, to
spend Christmas with Bobbi's
sister, her family and parents.
They were hoping 'to enjoy the
sun in Arizona but the sun
wouldn't cooperate and they had
to spend considerable time in
garages having repairs done to
their rented motorhome. The
family Christmas celebration
made it all worthwhile, though,
since the cousins hadn't seen
each other for about three years.
On their way back they
decided to make a trip through
Death Valley, figuring it's always
sunny there, but just as they got
to their camping area it started
raining for the first time in 35
years.
Next they stopped in Reno
for a little fun in the casinos and
then headed for home, only to
More than 125 Mason Lake
residents and their friends
ushered in the new year at a
dance New Year's Eve in the
MBC Clubhouse.
Theme for the dance was
"pink elephants" and the designs
were done by local
' artist-cartoonist Rudy Zingier.
After Rudy made the original
. designs, dance committee
members cut them out and used
them to decorate the walls and
tables.
Rudy and his wife Dolores
came to the dance "just to
watch for a little while" because.
Dolores was just released from
the hospital, but Rudy couldn't
resist the music, so ended up
dancing anyway.
In the last column it was
reported that Dolores was
released from the hospital in
time for Christmas, but actually
she ended staying until just
before New Year's.
Hazel and Jim Bogard
traveled through the snow from
Kennewick to spend New Year's
weekend at their newly
purchased cabin in Paradise
Estates and they *also enjoyed
attending the dance. Margie and
George Marshall peeked in for a
few minutes but since George's
surgery he isn't quite up to
have more trouble with the
motorhome as they went
through Oregon.
Bobbi said, "Although the
problems with the motorhome
were pretty traumatic, we met
some really nice and helpful
people so some good came of
it."
Maxine and Sven Gunnarson
traveled south to California to
spend New Year's with their
daughter and also to attend the
East-West Shrine football game.
Bill Russell and his
son-in-law, Joe Rheums, flew to
Los Angeles to attend the Rose
Bowl game and said it was well
worth the time and money to
see such a great Husky victory.
Next meeting of the MBC
Club will be held January 12 at
8 p.m. at the clubhouse.
Recently some of the young
people around the lake have
voiced an interest in getting a
youth club going again, so that
will probably be the main topic
for discussion. A good turnout
for the meeting could really
facilitate getting some activities
started for the young people.

North Mason's winless boys'
basketball team came within four
points of capturing its first
victory this season, but couldn't
bring the game home and lost the
match against visiting Quilcene,
55-47.
With two minutes left in the
game the Bulldogs narrowed the
Rangers' lead, which had once
climbed to 20 points, down to a
pair of baskets.
For the next minute it seemed
North Mason might take the game
coasting on their momentum, but
three turnovers in the closing
minutes gave Quilcene the win.
Dennis Lund was the only
Bulldog player in double figures
for the low-scoring game, charting
i I points.
North Mason started out
slowly, scoring only 14 points in
the first half to dig themselves in
a hole they never could overcome.
The Bulldogs came back out
fighting following halftime to
match the Rangers point-for-point
in the third quarter.
Under the direction of guards
Mike Kemp and Joe Roche, North
Mason played some of the best
ball it's shown this season to
outscore Quilcene by six points in
the final period.
But the final performance was
not enough to balance the show
during the first two quarters and
the Bulldogs added an
to their loss column.
North Mason's
match will be
league-leader Port
Friday night.
