SHSGIRLSBOWLING
By DEAN SIEMON
It was a perfect senior
night for the Shelton High
School girls bowling team,
defeating South Kitsap
High School in a 7-0 sweep
on Thursday at West Side
Lanes in Olympia.
The Highclimbers (10-2)
earned their ninth straight
win of the season defeating
a Wolves team (7-4) that
gave them an early season
loss in November.
Junior Mishawn Ewart
led the team with a 386 se-
ries, highlighted by a second
game score of 214 where she
had strikes in the first six
frames.
Sophomore Danielle Ew-
art had a 349 series with a
195 score in her first game.
Shelton head coach Curt
Snyder said the lane condi-
tions at West Side Lanes
presented some troubles
for all the bowlers; but ad-
justments were keys for the
Shelton win.
"Our team adjusted bet-
ter than South Kitsap did,"
Snyder said. "You can neve
work on that enough."
Team captain Brittany
Chamberlin, Mackenzie
Chakos and Lynzee Johnson
were honored as the team's
seniors.
Chamberlin was the most
consistant bowler for Shel-
ton with a first game score
of 171, followed by 172 in
her second game to total a
343 series.
"These are the lane con-
ditions that fit her style,"
Snyder said. "So [her scores]
didn't surprise me at all."
Johnson, who has had an
average above 160 during
the season, struggled with
scores of 129 and 147.
"I think a lot of it was
Lynzee and the pressure of
bowling against South Kit-
sap," Snyder said.
The win added to the mo-
mentum that last season's
Narrows League champions
started after a slow 1-2 start
to the season. Snyder is op-
timistic of the Highclimb-
ers continuing their success
throughout the rest of the
season.
"If we win out, we're the
league champs," he said.
"This is just one step closer."
