Belfair Self-Storage hosts ’Art From My Living Room’ ' Kirk Boxleitner kbox/e/tner@masoncounty. com Sunday promises to see Bel- fair Self-Storage test out a new approach as owner and manager Barbara Treick invites the pub- lic to enjoy “Art From My Living Room” at p.m.at the business’ lo- cation at 23270 NE state Route 3. Although Belfair Self-Storage’s previous art receptions have show— cased some of the artists in—person with their pieces, and even includ- ed a couple of live performanc- es, Treick said the post-holiday months can be slow for foot-traffic. Treick described. Belfair Self Storage’s holiday art reception, featuring Native American mu- sician Vince Redhouse and lo- .cal painter Tai Connell just prior to Thanksgiving, as having gone well, she nonetheless noted, “With. the arrival of winter, we'won’t be able to host guest artists for the I simple reason that it would be too' cold to change our reader board. It last fall. her home. simply wouldn’t be fair to display . ‘ some artists, but not others.” . Although Treick knew the “ro- tating” part of her rotating art gallery would not be possible in the meantime, she still wanted to keep the gallery going, and was finally inspired by a conversa- tion she had with Belfair sculptor James Kelsey, whose artwork was unveiled locally as part of the Port of Allyn’s centennial celebration “He asked me why I hang on to so many of my own pieces of art, and at first, my response was simply, ‘Because I want them, Treick said. “They were pieces I didn’t want to let go of. But then I thought, since I love them so much, maybe other people would enjoy looking at them as well.” To recreate the feel of her liv- ing room for the exhibit, Treick plans to display works by other artists that she has on display in “No family photos,” Treick Thursday, Jan. 13, Shelton-Mason County Journal — Page A—19 laughed, “but I have works from Ginger Van Boven that I got from Park Lane Gallery in Kirkland, and other, artists from Fusion Glass Gallery in Ocean Shores. There’s a ceramic wall—hanging I got from Port Townsend, and even pieces from my grandson and granddaughter, from when they were in elementary and middle School.” . v Treick probably will be short of a display or reception for the gallery in February. She said al- though she still is interested in setting up her space to host guest creators in conducting art-related classes, most of those who have expressed interest in doing so are, like her, dealing with medi- cal matters. Looking beyond win- ter, Treick hopes to help celebrate “Music In Our Schools ‘Month” in March, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. 3” book page. HARLEQUIN, continued from page 18 comedy in which two actors play all the characters involved in 'a criminal investigation. Both actors, Katherine Strohmaier and Jon Lutyens, play the pi— ano throughout. 1 In his director’s 'notes regarding the production, Corey McDaniel stated, “Being in the rehearsal room with Kathrine and Jon has been a true and unique gift. Witnessing these two very skilled actors and musicians dissect and execute the rapid-fire changes of thought, characters, physicality, and a multitude of key changes was thrilling.” McDaniel added, “Generally speaking, what I love most about theater is our opportunity to gather as a community and reflect on what it means to be within Adot—a- the human experience.” All Harlequin employees will remain on staff. Harlequin, will resume rehearsals and other pro- duction-related activities in late February. ‘ Looking beyond March and April, Harlequin is 54; still slated to present “Sovereignty”'from May.6-28 and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” from June 24- through July 30.“Sovereignty,” centers .on‘ Sarah Ridge Polson, a young Cherokee lawyer fighting to . restore her nation’s jurisdiction, while also .confront- 2,: ing the ever-present ghosts of her grandfathers. i9: “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is the genre-bend- . ing, fourth-wall—smashing winner of four 2014 Tony \‘fi Awards, including Best Musical Revival.
