Kros’ MESSAGE

“ ‘But why did you need to search?’ he asked. ‘Didn’t you know
that I must be in my Father’s house?’ But they didn’t understand
what he meant.” ‘
Luke 2:49-50 NLT
All of December, we heard about the story of Jesus being born.
But the Bible doesn’t tell us too much about his childhood after
that. It seems to skip over to him getting baptized and starting
his ministry.
He was 27 when he was baptized, so that’s a lot of years we
don’t hear about!
What was Jesus like as a child? Mary and Joseph had other
children after him; so he had siblings. I bet He played with
them, but I don’t picture him fighting with them. And then the
Bible tells us Joseph was a carpenter, so Jesus learned carpentry
from his father.
But Jesus also had another Father He was very well aware of,
and that is God.
Remember Joseph and Mary had to go to Jerusalem for the
census, when Mary was pregnant? Well, Luke 2:39-40 tells us,
“When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the
law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee.
There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with
wisdom, and God’s favor was on him.”
Then we hear nothing about him until he is twelve years old.
Verses 41-52 tell us this story: Every year Jesus’ parents would
go to jerusalem for the Passover festival. When Jesus was 12,
they attended the festival as usual. When the celebration was
over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in
Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, because they just
thought he was among the ether travelers. But, when he didn’t
show up that evening, they started looking for him among their

Good News!
relatives and friends. When they couldn’t find him, they went
back to Jerusalem to search for him there.
Have you ever been on a trip with your parents, and you had to
go back because they left something behind? Like their wallet or
a debit card? Well, this was their CHILD! They were frantic and
worried!
They finally found him, three days later. He was in the Temple,
sitting among the religious leaders, listening to them, and
asking questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his
understanding, and his answers, but his parents did not know
what to think.
Mary asked him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your
father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere!”
“But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn‘t you
know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they didn’t
understand what he meant.
He returned to Nazareth with them, and was obedient to them.
And Mary stored all of these things in her heart. Jesus grew
in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and all the
people.
After all the things the angels had told Joseph and Mary about
the baby they would have, and after witnessing shepherds and
wise men come to worship him, and after prophecies others
gave, they still didn’t fully understand just how special Jesus
was. He was their child, he was special to THEM but, as days
turned into weeks, and months, and years, I can imagine life
was pretty average, but Mary, we are told, stored a lot of things
in her heart over those years. She must have wanted him to stay
her little boy for as long as he could, but even she did not have
an idea what he would be put through. We have to remember
she was as human as you and me! Jesus is the only one who
was divine. Can you imagine raising a child—GOD’S child?
What a huge responsibility! She must have been a very special
young lady for God to choose her.
You know what I always liked? Jesus was 12 when he stayed
behind, full of curiosity, and talking to the religious teachers.
We can be like that! No matter how young or old we are!
When I was four years old, I went to church for the first time
I was aware of, and I still remember walking in, full of awe,
thinking, “ Wow! This is God’s house! God lives here! ” I always
raised my hand to say the prayer in our children’s classes.
When I was 6 and 7, it was my children’s bible stories that I
loved reading and, by 8 years old, I wanted to “give Talks” in
church, like the adults did. I was 8 when I gave my first one,
and it was on baptism.
As we grow older, we study the Bible more, and God gives us
more wisdom, if we ask.
How old are YOU? You are never too young to start loving God,
or too old! He gives all of us a desire. for him in our hearts!
