North Mason Regional Fire Author-
ity announced Monday they would be
submitting a permit package for the
new Emergency Management Campus
to Mason County this week.
“This is the largest public safe—

that’s ever been constructed in Mason
County,” Fire Chief Beau Bakken said
during a presentation before the Citi-
zen’s Advisory Committee on‘Jan. 11.
“There’s been other fire stations that
have been built, but not to this size —
to this magnitude. It really reflects the
growth that’s happening here in North
Mason.”

things that we also push back on our

Construction is budgeted to take 10

The Emergency Campus will also
include moving the North Precinct of
Mason County Sheriffs Office and Ma-

personnel into the former station that
will remain on the property.

facilities that they don’t have right
now,” Bakken said.
The Sheriff’s Office has its larger
equipment scattered in various ,stor—
age locations, and the old Station 21
apparatus bay would provide a cen-
tral place to house equipment, Bakken
said.
“And another thing there are
times when we can share equipment,”
he said. “There are times we need,
a boat and the Sheriffs Office says
there are times that the Sherifi’s Of-
fice needs quads and ATVs to go up
into the forest, and we’ve got that. So
instead of duplicating and purchasing
more equipment what if we were
right next door to one another?”
The proximity of north county emer-
gency services will improve communi-
cation and cooperation between law
enforcement and emergency medical
responders. " ‘
“We run calls together, we work
side by side with one another,” Bak-
ken said. “When things go sideways ‘
in North Mason and a significant
emergency response is needed, it’s us
and law enforcement partnering up.”
