By EMILY HANSON emily@masoncounty.corn With two more victories last week, the Shelton bowling team has secured the 4A Narrows League title. On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Lady High- climbers avenged an earlier season loss to Mt. Tahoma with a 6 1/2 to 1/2 victory at West Side Lanes. "Sweet revenge," Curt Snyder, head coach, said. "I think I was more excited than the girls to beat Mt. Tahoma this time but the girls were excited, too." The Lady Highclimbers won game one 758-73.9 and game two 848-749. The team then won the first baker game 150-133 but Shelton and Mt. Tahoma tied in the second baker game at 145, resulting in each team receiving half of one point. Senior Mishawn Ewart led the Lady Highclimbers in games one and two with scores of 186 and 172, respectively, while junior Danielle Ewart was the second high- est scorer for both games with scores of 169 and 163. On Thursday, Jan. 12, the Lady High- climbers defeated Bellarmine 7-0 at West Side Lanes. "We've been beating up on everybody; it's been great," Snyder said. "Danielle is No. 2 in the league and Mishawn is number four, but with their scores this week they both may have gone up in the standings. Dani- elle had her highest game of the season at 251 against Bellarmine with seven strikes in a row. She can get on a roll and just go. Brittany Smith also did extremely well." Smith led the Lady Highclimbers in game one with 208 while Danielle Ewart led in game two with 251. Mishawn Ewart bowled consistently in both games at 184 and 186. As of press time, the results of the team's match against Central Kitsap on Tuesday, Jan. 17, were not yet available, but Snyder said that win or lose, the Lady Highclimbers See Bowling on page C-5 ~lle Journal photo by Emily Hanson Shelton freshman Harrison Mac vy kicks off at the start of the 200-medley relay on Thursday, Jan. 12 during the Highclimbers' home meet against South Kitsap. Shelton-Mason County Journal Shelton senior leads dancers By EMILY HANSON emily@masoncounty.com Madison Crow loves to dance. "It's like freeing your mind of everything," Crow, a senior at Shelton High School, said. "It's more of a hobby for me, not a sport." As the captain of the SHS dance team, Crow is in charge of running practices, making up Madison routines, Crow teaching the rou- tines, pick- ing out outfits and choosing the music. "Madison Crow was ju- nior co-captain last year," Karen White, head coach, said. "She is a very talented and creative choreographer. She is also assertive in her leadership in the Mini Dome." This is Crow's third year with the dance team but she has been dancing since she was 8. "i kinda just watched dancers from previous years but Uve been dancing since I was 8 or so, so it was kind of the next step, I guess," Crow said. Through the Shelton Dance Center, Crow has learned hip-hop, jazz and tech dance moves along with several others. Though Crow's only ath- letic focus this year is dance team, she used to play vol- leyball for SHS. She said she took everything else off to focus on dancing. "It's kind of a young team but they're improving dra- matically," Crow said of this year's dance squad. "I think it's going to be a great team for the next couple of years." She said that leading the dance team is a lot of work but that she believes it is well worth the effort.
