With two more victories last week, the
Shelton bowling team has secured the 4A
Narrows League title.
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Lady High-
climbers avenged an earlier season loss to
Mt. Tahoma with a 6 1/2 to 1/2 victory at
West Side Lanes.
"Sweet revenge," Curt Snyder, head
coach, said. "I think I was more excited than
the girls to beat Mt. Tahoma this time but
the girls were excited, too."
The Lady Highclimbers won game one
758-73.9 and game two 848-749. The team
then won the first baker game 150-133 but
Shelton and Mt. Tahoma tied in the second
baker game at 145, resulting in each team
receiving half of one point.
Senior Mishawn Ewart led the Lady
Highclimbers in games one and two with
scores of 186 and 172, respectively, while
junior Danielle Ewart was the second high-
est scorer for both games with scores of 169
and 163.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, the Lady High-
climbers defeated Bellarmine 7-0 at West
Side Lanes.
"We've been beating up on everybody; it's
been great," Snyder said. "Danielle is No. 2
in the league and Mishawn is number four,
but with their scores this week they both
may have gone up in the standings. Dani-
elle had her highest game of the season at
251 against Bellarmine with seven strikes
in a row. She can get on a roll and just go.
Brittany Smith also did extremely well."
Smith led the Lady Highclimbers in
game one with 208 while Danielle Ewart
led in game two with 251. Mishawn Ewart
bowled consistently in both games at 184
and 186.
As of press time, the results of the team's
match against Central Kitsap on Tuesday,
Jan. 17, were not yet available, but Snyder
said that win or lose, the Lady Highclimbers

In its final home meet of the season, t[
Shelton swim team took down South Ki
sap.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, the Highclimbel
defeated South Kitsap 107-76.
"It was a home meet but we still had a h
of best times," Chad Youngquist, co-hea
coach, said. "Ten out of 27 races were be=
performances. Without blocks, that's prett
good."
Achieving personal records were Ryd~
Phelan in the 200-freestyle with a time
2:11.34 and in the 500-freestyle with a tie
of 6:05.50, Jantzen Rodgers in the 200-ind
vidual medley with a time of 3:02.29, Chr:
Frost in the 100-butterfly with a time
1:52.74, Dalton Green in the 100-freesty:
with a time of 1:05.54, John Parson in t[
500-freestyle with a time of 6:58.62 an
Ryan Taylor in the 100-breaststroke with
time of 1:23.64.
Three divers - John Pentony, Housta
Dean and Josh Zagrean - also achieve
personal best scores. Pentony scored 186.4
while Dean scored 165.7 and Zagrea
scored 155.55.
"Most of the best performances car~
from first-year swimmers," Youngqui~
said. "We weren't dominant in any one are~
it was just a little bit from each level. It w~
definitely a team effort."
This was also the last home meet for
eight seniors: Dean, Zagrean, Josh Vance,
Dom Strasburg, Tyler Faulkner, Bryson
Finlay, Chris Wiley and Indi Endicott.
e "Endicott has really evolved tremen-
dously as a swimmer," Youngquist said. "He
started as a diver, switched to swimming as
s a sophomore, made it to state on the relay
team as a junior and now has the ability to
,t get to state in individual events."
d Co-head coach Rob Phelan said Dean
has made strides this season.
y "He is being a good leader," Phelan said.
"He's also qualified for league and districts
r and he's done a great job getting out of his
comfort zone."
e After this meet, the team competed at
[- the South Sound Relays on Saturday, Jan.
s 14 at Evergreen State College.
"This was more like a jamboree because
e there were 2A and 3A schools there, too and
e there were events we don't even do during
normal competition, like the 100 individual
a medley," Youngquist said.
Prior to the Highclimbers' meet against
a South Kitsap, the diving team competed in
d two ll-dive meets.
5 First, on Saturday, Jan. 7, the divers
a competed at South Kitsap where Pentony,
Zagrean and Dean all qualified for districts.
e "John [Pentony] had an outstanding
meet," Phelan said.
Pentony scored 291.7 while Dean scored
s 258, Zagrean scored 240.55, Jake Aldrich

Madison Crow loves to
dance.
"It's like freeing your
mind of everything," Crow,
a senior at Shelton High
School, said. "It's more of a
hobby for me, not a sport."
As the
captain of
the SHS
dance
team,
Crow is in
charge of
running
practices,
making up
Madison routines,
Crow teaching
the rou-
tines, pick-
ing out outfits and choosing
the music.
"Madison Crow was ju-
nior co-captain last year,"
Karen White, head coach,
said. "She is a very talented
and creative choreographer.
She is also assertive in
her leadership in the Mini
Dome."
This is Crow's third year
with the dance team but she
has been dancing since she
was 8.
"i kinda just watched
dancers from previous years
but Uve been dancing since I
was 8 or so, so it was kind of
the next step, I guess," Crow
said.
Through the Shelton
Dance Center, Crow has
learned hip-hop, jazz and
tech dance moves along
with several others.
Though Crow's only ath-
letic focus this year is dance
team, she used to play vol-
leyball for SHS. She said
she took everything else off
to focus on dancing.
"It's kind of a young team
but they're improving dra-
matically," Crow said of this
year's dance squad. "I think
it's going to be a great team
for the next couple of years."
She said that leading the
dance team is a lot of work
but that she believes it is
well worth the effort.
Along with dance team,
Crow is: also co-president of
the Key Club, is on the se-
