“Pay careful attention to your own work, for
then yoil will get the satisfaction of a job well
done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to
anyone else. For we are each responsible for our
own conduct. —‘_Galatians
I really like this scripture!
:«I got hired here at the Journal in 2016 —— almost
seven years ago! Maybe some of you weren’t even
born yet!
I was interviewing for the position of advertising
representative, and I had sold radio advertising, but
never worked in the newspaperjndustry.
The owner of the newspaper asked me about past
accomplishments in advertising, and I said I had
broken records, then broke my own records.
, He asked what I.felt were the top three qualities v,
of a successful salesman and I said, “Belief in
yourself, belief in your product, and thick skin,
because you will face rejection.” L
He hired me! 101.. _
Think about it though. It’s true! If you believe in
yourself, and believe in what you are doing, yoii do
not need to compare yourself with anyone else. You
say, God will hold us accountable for ourselves. We
cannotblame anyone else if we do something ‘we
know is wrong. At the same time, no one else can
take credit for what we do that is right.
When we set goals for ourselves that we can
achieve, then we can keep setting more goals once
we’ve achieved them.
We should never stop trying to be a better person
, than we were the day before.
But Philippians 2:3-4 tells us, “Don’t be selfish;
don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of
others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only
for your own interests, but take an interest in others,
too.” . ’
When we believe in Jesus, and go about our own
business, we can do ajob well done. We don’t
compare ourselves to others, and we don’t try to
‘be better than them’ at something. But we can V
encourage each other, and be humble about our'own
talents or achievements. We can recognize that God
gives everyone talents and achievements.
This scripture can also apply to our service for
Jesus. If we believe in Him so much we want to
tell others, we do not need to worry if others reject
us or make fun of us. Jesus was rejected too, and
He is the Son of God! But His joy in saving us was
greater than the rejection from the unsaved. He has
a passion for us and we should have a passion for
Him. , ' '
Then we will hear, “The master said, ‘Well
done, my good and faithful servant. You have been
faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will
give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate
together!” Amen!
