What do you do for entertainment in Mason County?

Jessica Davis
(from Arkansas)
"I love old towns, so the
fact that I'm visiting is ex-
citing. I love exploring.
Tyler Beers
"Usually for entertainment
I go outside of the county.
A lot of things have tried to
happen here and they get
stopped. There isn't any-
thing to do in this town."
Dan White
"I live in Bremerton. I come
up here a lot to look at an-
tique stores."
Troy Harris
"I like to ride motorcycles
with my friends out on the
trails."
Music is an
irreplaceable
gift
Editor, the Journal
Our word "education" de-
rives from the Latin word
'educare'. "Educe" is a com-
panion word, and they both
mean, "to bring out what is
latent." It describes what
happens to a rose when it
blooms and brings out the
beauty and goodness resid-
ing in the bud, just as true
education brings out the
beauty and goodness in a
child as the child is educat-
ed.
My wife is a music teach-
er in Shelton; I myself am a
musician. I understand the
inestimable richness music
adds to and brings out of a
young child. It cannot be ad-
equately described, it must
be experienced.
By voting for the replace-
ment school levy in Febru-
ary, you are delivering to
young children an irreplace-
able gift of future wholeness
brought into being through
their participation in the
music programs of our vari-
ous schools. For my par, I
consider the vote a solemn
obligation to all of our fu-
tures.

EMS levy
clarity
Editor, the Journal
On November 4, 2010
the Mason County Jour-
nal incorrectly reported the
passage of Mason County
Fire District 6 Emergency
Medial Services (EMS) levy
in Union. The EMS levy ac-
tually failed because it did
not receive the required 60
percent yes votes. The Jour-
nal was contacted to print a
retraction. It did not. As a
result, there has been wide
spread confusion. At issue
was the continued emergen-
cy medical support to the
citizens in district six, the
beefits of passing the levy;
increased volunteer stffing,
continued medical taining
and updated medical sup-
plies.
November 18, 2010, the
Fire District Commission
heard from many in the
community who support the
passage of the levy. Notably:
Mike Carnovale, General
Manager of Alderbrook Re-
sort, Gary Hansen of Cameo
Boutique and Wine Shop,
Rick Verbarendse, General
Manager of Alderbrook Golf
and yacht Club, Richard
Mac Arthur, President of
the Hood Canal Improve-
ment Club, Terry Oliver,
Pastor of the New Commu-
nity Church of Union, Bill
Kendrick, President Alder-
brook Home Owners Associ-
ation, and Ed Binder, a local
resident; to name a few.
Based upon their state-
ments and encouragement,
the Commission of Mason
County Fire District 6; Jan-
uary 13, 2011 has chosen to
give the residents another
vote on an emergency medi-
cal service (EMS) levy this
April 26, 2011.
During the next several
weeks the department will
hold public informational
meetings to inform and ed-
ucate the voters of Mason
County Fire District 6 of the
proposed service and of the
importance of passage.
For more information,
please call the department
at 360-898-4871, 8 a.m. to
5 p.m., Monday thru Friday
or our web site www.union-
firedept.org.

wants a
Taco Time
Editor, the Journal
I want a Taco Time in
Shelton and to do this some-
one would have to either
buy a building or have one
built and I have to go all the
way to Lacey for a simple
meal. I think it should be on
Hillcrest.
