The ballots need to be turned in by Feb. 8. If approved, the three- year replacement mainte- nance and operations (M&O) levy will provide about 14 percent of the district's fund- ing. District officials say that the replacement levy rates are projected to be less than current ones and that the district will be eligible to receive about $7 million in matching funds. The projected rate for 2012 is $3.15 per $1,000 of assessed valuation and will raise $6,570,000. In 2013, the rate would be about $3.20 2014 the projected rate is $3.27 and raise $7,030,000. By way of comparison, the estimated rate for the levy that expires at the end of this year is $3.37 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Local levy dollars provide funding for basic education services and day-to-day op- erating expenses that are not fully funded by the state or federal government. Many of these programs and ser- vices are required, but since the district does not receive adequate funding from the state or federal government, the district depends on levy funds to provide these ser- vices for students. Levy money is used for regular classroom and spe- cial program teachers and assistants; instructional ing to meet unfunded fed- eral mandates; classroom furniture and equipment; secondary summer school; special education; learning assistance and remedial in- struction; truancy; nursing services; school libraries; athletics and activities and after-school programs such as band, choir, drama, and various clubs. Other levy funding helps provide for swimming pool operations and high school auditorium costs; school safety and emergency pre- paredness; significant trans- portation costs beyond what the state provides; increased utilities and insurance costs; technology needs including equipment upgrades and re- placement; and maintenance and repair of facilities. io Truck sToRE BOOK Su ,VGREEN DIAMOND 1 RESOURCE COMPANY Ou r Ki ds!
