But the Bulldogs were
unable to stop Bremerton's
Courtney Carpenter, who
contributed 23 points and
23 rebounds in the 53-39
loss.
"We just started tonight
to play straight up and then
Courtney got hot, made
seven free throws," said
Clifford Harris, North Ma-
son head coach.
Harris said North Mason
(4-10, 2-7 Olympic League)
attempted to switch to
a trap defense, but the
Knights (5-7, 3-5 league)
were able to make counter
adjustments.
"They're a well coached
team," Harris said. "We got
out of the team structure
and a little bit too much one
on one."
The Bulldogs kept the
game close at halftime with
a 15-8 first quarter lead be-
fore trailing by four points
at halftime (26-22).
But the fourth quarter
was the difference as the
Knights went on a 15-3 run
where the offense strug-
gled.
"We missed some easy
shots we should have
made," Harris said. They
[Bremerton] made six more
shots in the fourth quar-
ter."
North Masoffs Sadee In-
gwaldson led the team with
12 points. Harris said she
had a nice game with the
exception of the final frame,
"She put a little bit of
pressure on herself in the
fourth quarter," Harris
said.
"We're still
a young
team ...
One of our
emphases
in practice
is to
improve."
Harris said the team
has to improve on pressure
shooting, as well as adding
more pressure on the defen-
sive side of the ball.
"We're still a young
team," Harris said. "One of
our emphasizes in practice
is to improve."

Climbers held scoreless in
fi rst, fall to O- 13
By DEAN SIEMON
The recent offensive
struggles continued for
the Shelton High School
girls basketball team as
they lost at Olympia High
School on Friday in a 4A
Narrows League game,
62-15.
The Highclimbers (0-
13, 0-7 Narrows League)
fell behind in a 22-0 run
to Olympia (6-5, 4-3 Nar-
rows League) in the first
quarter.
Nigel Warren, Shelton
head coach, said turnovers
were the factor in the slow
start offensively against
Olympia's half court trap
defense.
"First half, we're talk-
ing 22 [turnovers], give or
take," Warren said. "A lot
of traveling."
Shelton entered the
game a few days after los-
ing at Bellarmine Prepa-
ratory School (January
12), 57-19 and a week af-
ter losing by 61 to Mount
Tahoma High School.
The Highclimbers fin-
ished a three-game road
trip (which concluded af-
ter the Journal's press
deadline on Wednesday
at Central Kitsap High
School).
"This three game road
trip hasn't been kind to
us," Warren said.
"We just couldn't get
the ball in the basket to-
night," Warren said.
After entering halftime
trailing 36-4, Shelton
scored 11 more points in
the second half.
"In the second half,
we came out and settled
down," Warren said.
The Highclimbers
also struggled at the free
throw line, combined for
seven out of 26 from the
foul line.
Jackie Gable scored all
three of her points with
three for six from the line.
Kandyce Bragg, Jordanne
Krumpols and Taylor
Gustafson each had three
points as well.
"We're going to continue
working on bringing some-
one up as a point guard,"
Warren said. "Right now,
we don't have a true point
guard."
With four of Shelton's
final six games at the
friendly confines of the
Shelton Minidome, War-
ren is optimistic.
"We're halfway through
league," he said. "We got
six games left."
