PUD plans to give something back to customers
By NATALIE JOHNSON
PUD customers in need may get
a little more help from their utility
district this year.
The Mason County PUD 3
Board of Commissioners discussed
several items during their Tuesday
morning meeting, including modi-
fying their "Project Share" program
to allow more people to qualify for
help with their bill.
'Tee found out when we got to
the end of winter we had some
money left," PUD 3 manager Wyla
Wood said. "We don't think that's
the intent of the people who give."
The commissioners approved a
resolution that allowed people up
to 185 percent above the federally
established poverty line to qualify.
Applicants also do not need to be
behind in their payments to qualify
now.
"It's just broadening the eligibil-
ity requirements," Wood said.
The new requirements will be in

effect February 1.
Wood also brought up another
way that the PUD could help its
customers.
The PUD has an overage from
their 2010 budget totaling about
$1.685 million. PUD staff is dis-
cussing putting together a rate sta-
bilization fund with that money.
"In government, quite often de-
partment heads are asked to spend
down their budget," PUD 3 com-
missioner Tom Farmer said. "I
think this is one of the best budget
practices we can we can practice."
In anticipation of the PUD's
eventual move up to it's future
location on Johns Prairie Rd., the
PUD commission also passed a
resolution to make its downtown
administrative buildings surplus.
"It's the next step in vacating
these buildings, when the time
comes, and making them avail-
able for purchase," commissioner
Linda Gott said.
The resolution includes the
PUD's park, the administration
building, the engineering building
and the parking lot, all located on
Cota or Grove Street in Shelton.
The resolution does not include
the customer service building on
Cota Street. The downtown cus-
tomer service building will re-
main open even after the PUD has
moved to their new Johns Prairie
offices.
While they PUD offices on Johns
Prairie Road will not be completed
for some time, the PUD has to de-
clare the downtown buildings sur-
plus, so organizations interested
in the buildings can begin the pro-
cess of purchasing them.
"We're finding a good spot to
utilize a public building for public
good," Farmer said.
Congratulations
