made 15 shots to eke out a three-
shot win over runner-up Tara
Grant of Evergreen.
Aaron enjoyed a three-basket
margin of victory as well, prevail-
ing with 16 shots over Belfair Ele-
mentary champ Aaron Petersen.
And fellow age-group victor
Michelle won the closest contest
of the afternoon, meshing seven
shots to nudge Mary M. Knight's
Carrie Scott by one.
Finally, Colby took the nod in
the older boys' division with a 21-
25 performance, beating runner-
up Mike Radasa of Pioneer School
by four buckets, while fellow
champ Cassi outdueled Hawkins
Middle School's Megan Emm by
two with a 15-hoop performance
in the girls'.
ALSO IN THE hunt - local
champs all - were 35 other dead-
eyes.

rels the day after tomorrow in
Forks. If they should prevail once
more they'll advance to the state
go-around, February 20 at the
University of Washington. Win-
ners there advance to the North-
west Regionals March 6 in Port-
land - last stop before the April
15-18 national finals in Spring-
field, Massachusetts.

Mats apply silver lining
The Climber wrestlers put on
a show for the home crowd Tues-
day, belying their underdog sta-
tus for a fair stretch of the match
before bowing 24-41 to the Tigers
of Centralia.
"It was a good night for our
young kids," said Roger McCaus-
land, emphasizing his Climbers'
decided youth in this his first
year as head coach. "In fact, it
was probably the best we've
wrestled as a team all year."
The hosts got victories from
sophomore Adam Cochran (18-2
technical fall at 115 pounds),
senior Jesse Dillon (4-1 decision
at 122), freshman Kelly Weston
(18-10 decision at 129), junior
state veteran Vic Gardenhire (by
pin at 135) and classmate and
fellow state vet Nick Cronquist
(by pin at 190).
A week ago Wednesday the
Climbers had a similar outing, ac-
tually leading till the final two
bouts in a 27-38 loss to visiting
Tumwater.
The full particulars on that
match were not available at press

This Saturday in Camas the
youngest Climbers get their shot
at post-season laurels. The occa-
sion is the so-called jayvee quali-
fier from which top finishers earn
backdoor berths in the subse-
quent weekend's subregional
tournament, to be held in
Washougal.

there will advance to regionals,
and the top four there to state.

men's basketball took an un-
scheduled hiatus last week,
Olympic Herb Farm cultivated an
88-69 win over Skokomish, run-
ning its record to 4-2, second best
among the "B" division squads.
Division leader Mason County
Garbage and the other division's
coleaders - Sea West Mortgage/
Colo's Corner and Soundview
Chiropractic/Lix Construction -
took Thursday night off (along
with Olympic Motors/Relier Log-
ging) when scheduling conflicts
and illness precluded the procure-
ment of officials.
Little Creek concluded the ab-
breviated league slate with a 64-
56 win over the Potlatch Pirates.
OLYMPIC HERB went on a
38-19 fourth-quarter binge, fueled
in part by 10-14 shooting from the
free-throw line, to break a 50-50
deadlock and pull away from Sko-
komish.
Jim Buck paced the winners,
pouring in 27 and running his
league-leading average to 24.2
ppg in the bargain, with Paul
Feenan and Scott Peek chipping
in 19 and 16.
Clinton Coley tallied 21 and
Phillip Peterson added 14, includ-
ing four treys, for Skok.
Anthony Brown scored 16 of
his game-high 18 before intermis-
sion, enabling Little Creek to lead
