The class of the Pierce County
League, White River, came to Bel-
fair Friday night, January 22, in
a contest that would test the bas-
ketball abilities of the Lady Bull-
dogs. The result was a disappoint-
ing 66-27 defeat for North Mason,
dropping their league record to 1-
6.
"I really feel the team lost its
focus in the second and third
quarters of the game," said a
frustrated head coach Holly Wib-
bens. The coach did understand
that the team's lack of productivi-
ty and overall frustrations made
it difficult for the team to keep its
focus.
The Hornets pressed the Bull-
dogs all game long, forcing nu-
merous turnovers. The lack of
continuity on offense didn't allow
North Mason a chance to set up
its double post offense, a strength
White River.
"WE KNEW BEFORE the
season was going to start that
they were the team to beat in the
Pierce County League," said Wib-
bens. "I thought we would play
them stronger than we did."
The win keeps White River's
record in the PCL unblemished
with an overall record of 11-2.
North Mason is now tied for last
place with Yelm.
White River's Trisha Herman-
son led her team with 17 points,
while Lisa Truemper's 10 points
and two blocked shots paced the
Bulldogs.
Wibbens is confident that the
schedule over the next six games
is favorable to North Mason. The
coach figures the Bulldogs must
go 4-2 in order to move into fifth
place in league, which would be
good enough to get a district play-
Softball registration
at Pacific Lutheran University in
Tacoma.
"I am confident that our team
can match up well with our re-
maining opponents (Clover Park,
Yelm, Franklin Pierce, Washing-
ton, Fife, Clover Park) . If so, we
can still make the playoffs," said
Wibbens.
