As a freshman, Brice Solis has been
the spark the North Mason Bulldogs
boys basketball team needed this year.
He proved to be a valuable asset against
Port Angeles when he was one of the
few players to find the holes in the
Roughriders staunch defense.
"He works his butt off and he gets to
the rim and fmishes things," North Ma-
son coach Steven Hackett said. =It looks
like he shouldn't, with all 115 pounds
of him. He's just a competitor and does
a great job, and has a great basketball
IQ."
But Solis alone couldn't help the
Bulldogs as the Roughriders drained 3s
left and right all night as Port Angeles
beat North Mason 68-57.
In December, the Roughriders beat
the Bulldogs 66-47 in Port Angeles.
They are known for their shooting,
Hackett said, so the Bulldogs knew
what to expect.
It didn't matter that they knew what
they would see, because from the get-
go, Port Angeles found the net. The
Roughriders started the game off on a
9-0 run -- their first shot of the game
was a 3-pointer from junior Grayson
Peet, which was quickly followed by a
layup from senior Lambros Rogers.
North Mason sophomore Trey Fisher
broke the Bulldogs' dry spell when he
scored a layup with 4:53 left in the first
quarter. PoX Angeles ended the first
quarter leading 20-9.
But Solis was ready to get the Bull-

North Mason's luck didn't improve
in the second half. In the opening six
minutes of third quarter, Kevin Burrell-
Briggs scored the team's only points.
The Bulldogs outscored Port Angeles by
one point in the third quarter.
In the fourth, the Bulldogs couldn't
overcome the Roughriders' sharp shoot-
ers despite switching up their defense
throughout the game. Even with senior
Daulton Geyer dropping back-to-back
3s with 2:35 left on the clock, it was too
late.
"I thought we started slow, and if we
wouldn't have started slow and slug-
gish, maybe we could have fought with
them the whole game," Burrell-Briggs
said. "We could have battled back and
maybe it would have been different."
Burrell-Briggs and Solis led the Bull-
dogs with 18 points a piece. Solis was
perfect from the free-throw line, going
6-for-6.
For the Roughriders, junior Luke An-
gevine led his squad with 18 points. Se-
nior Lambros Rogers added 12 points.
"I thought both teams played really,
really hard," Port Angeles coach Kasey
Ulin said. "North Mason is a young team
and they're well coached. This is always
a tough place to play, and I thought our
kids played fairly offensively."
As of Monday, the Bulldogs are
searching for their first league win. The
Bulldogs have three more games re-
maining in the season.
North Mason's next game is 7 p.m.
tomorrow at Bremerton High School.
