whole different level. If you're
going to beat us, you're going
to beat us all the way down.
With him, it's not going to
happen. He's going to play you
until the last second on the
clock."
So far this season, Kim-
ball's stat line is among the
best for the Highclimbers.
He's averaging 9.3 points
per game, has 5.9 rebounds
per game and 3.4 assists per
game. Kimball has made al-
most half of the shots he's
taken from the field.
From an early age, he liked
the action in basketball.
"I just liked the up-tempo,"
Kimball said. "I liked to be
moving around at all times. I
liked the way we played it."
One of his friends and com-
petitors from his early days on
the court was Giraldes. During
football last fall, Giraldes led
the team as quarterback and
Kimball was his point man
during many games. On the
court, Giraldes still works to
get the ball to Kimball.
"Last year as a sophomore
he had some senior friends, so
he was kind of under them,"
Giraldes said. "But he was still
a leader as a point guard, but
you could tell he was a little
hesitant as a sophomore with a
whole bunch of seniors around
him. But this year now he's
really stepped up. He knows
when to make decisions and
knows when he should take
over the game."
It's clear that Kimball con-
trols the floor and is part of
what holds the team together.
Pringle called him the "glue of
the team" and when he gets
into foul trouble, it affects the
Climbers.
As the regular season winds
down, Kimball continues to
love and thrive in his role.
"As point guard, you're run-
ning the whole thing," Kim-
ball said. =You have to know
what's going on. You have to
know all the plays and every
position. It's kind of stressful,
but, I mean, it's fun. I don't let
the stress get to me; I just play
through it and have fun."

There are 19 High-
climbers qualified for
the league meet and 10
members qualified for
the district meet.
Shelton ended its reg-
ular season with four 3A
Narrows League meet
wins. It only lost league
matchups to North Thur-
ston and Wilson, whom
coach Chad Youngquist
said have stacked teams.
One of the Shelton
league qualifiers was
freshman Sam Womer,
who qualified in the 200-
yard freestyle and in the
500-yard freestyle.
"It was pretty excit-
ing," Womer said. ’I
didn't think I was going:
to at the beginning of the
season. I just kind of im-
proved during practices
and I didn't expect it." .
For senior Levi Vance,
this week is his last
chance to make it to
state. Vance has quali-
fied for districts in the
50-yard freestyle and the
100-yard freestyle.
He's seconds from
qualifying for state in
both events.
"I think I did alright
but I want to do better,"
Vance said about his
performance during the
regular season. "I still
have some races I want
to improve on in the post-
season."
The divers once again
have a strong crop of
competitors pushing to-
ward the postseason. Jon
Netzel, a senior, placed
third overall at state last
year and looks to return
again this year. Netzel,
Troy Krumpols and Zach
Netzel have all qualified
for districts.
"It's been going good,"
coach Rob Phelan said
about the diving season.
"The next few weeks re-
ally dictate what's going
to happen the rest of the
season. The dual meet
season has been good;
they got a lot of prac-
tice and got to try new

things. Now, they just
have to get consistent on
them as they get into the
championship season."
The Climbers swim-
ming and diving team
continues its postseason
run at 4:30 p.m. today
with the 3A Narrows
League Diving Cham-
pionship at Foss High
School.
