A frigid
plunge

About 30 people took a chilly dip Saturday morning at the
annual polar plunge at Allyn Waterfront Park. Many of the
participants collected pledges to benefit after-school programs
at the North Mason branch of the Boys & Girls Club.

Put away your plastic beads and gold
doubloons, and instead blow the dust off
those dinner jackets and cocktail dress-
es. "Casino Royale" is the new theme of
the annual Allyn Community Associa-
tion fundraiser Saturday evening at the
Victor Hall, 51 E. Victor Read.
The look and feel of a swanky 1960s
casino -- inspired by the superstar spy
James Bond book and films -- will be rec-
reated for the event, which raises money
for projects to beautify Allyn. The doors
open at 5 p.m. at the hall off state Route

The event is designed "to help people
Mason County
get out of the doldrums," said organizer
Ina Culberson.
The Mardis Gras celebration was the
theme of the annual event for about five
years, and no event was hosted last year,
Culberson said.
"People didn't want to do the Mardi
Gras, so we decided to do sometldng dif-
ferent," she said.
Richard Bell proposed the "Casino
Reyale" theme. The company West Coast
Entertainment provides professional
dealers, a pit boss and gambling tables
that offer blackjack, craps, roulette and
Texas Hold 'era.
