Thursday, Jan. 30, 1936
This morning Mrs. Aiken
called me at 15 minutes
after 5. So I packed all my
stuff and Mr. Aiken took me
over to the Hollywood sta-
tion and I was there so early
I had to wait over an hour
and 20 minutes. I bought a
magazine and read. The bus
left at 7:28 and I arrived at
Ruby's and Earl's at 10:15
p.m. On the bus I met an old maid
who got on at Santa Barbara. She
nearly talked me to death, was reli-
gion crazy and from what I could fig-
ure out was in love with her doctor.
Very nervous and not very sure of
just what she was going to do. Never
met such a woman. To bed late.
Friday, Jan. 31, 1936
Slept late and ate a late breakfast:
Then I went out and got my hair
washed and set. In the afternoon we
walked to the store. I read a good
story "The Gaspards of Pine Craft"
by Ralph Connor. In the evening
Ruby I went downtown and saw
Eugene O'Brien in "The Cowboy
Millionaire" a very go0d show and
William Powell and Luise Rainer in
"Escapade." Home very late and ate
lunch. To bed late.
Saturday, Feb. 1, 1936
Raining again and dark out. We
got up very late. It's now 12 and
we're not quite done with our work.
Wrote a letter to Mrs. Aiken and yes=
terday and sent one to Sam. Am go-
ing to read the rest of my story and
rest myself. A very lazy day. Ruby is
washing her hair. I washed a:blouse
and yesterday some hosiery and un-

We got up late, ate breakfast and
cleaned house. Then Earl took us for
a ride over to the Alameda Airport
where we saw the China
Clipper and the Philippine
Clipper. They weigh 25 ½
tons and have a 130 foot
wing spread. Takes 150 gal-
lons of gas an hour to drive
the ship. They are silver in
color and certainly wonder-
ful. Will carry 40 tJassengers.
Went out to Merritt Lake
and saw thousands of ducks.
We saw some swans and
they certainly are graceful.
Lots of people fed the ducks
and they certainly got excited. Then
home again and got supper and the
sun came out today while we were out
in the car and we certainly enjoyed it.
Monday, Feb. 3, 1936
Ruby washed and so did I. Read
and rested all day. Went for a long
walk up the Avenue.
Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1936
Ruby and Earline and I went to
Oakland in the afternoon and got my-
self a blue skirt, two barrel sweaters
and a girdle. In the evening we went
to see "If I Had a Million" and Jean
Muir and John Boles in "Orchids to
You." My, Ruby enjoyed herself.
Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1936
Started on my way home at 8:55.
We rode all day and all night. The
scenery to the mountains by moonlight
was grand. We stopped about every
hour and a half to eat or walk around:
• When I read these words of Mary,s
it makes me want to get in my car
and head on down the road and visit
family and old friends. But then
there is the time thing. Where and
when do I find the time? Thank you
for reading this week's diary.
