-- February Is Children's Dental
Health Awareness Month
CHILDREN'S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH
focuses on educating children and parents
on the importance of establishing good oral
health habits early in life. Common problems
like cavities and gingivitis cause (:hildren
physical pain and can negatively impact their
self-esteem or even attention to learning.
Brushing and flossing will fight plaque and
keep teeth strong and healthy. It's important
that children get in the habit of brushing their
teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste,
as well as flossing every day.
Set up a dental appointment for your child
today and get started on the right track!

• .. Your dentist can inform you about fluoride drops, when
children should take them, and when they don't require
them any longer.
It is never too early to start caring
for your teeth. Depend on your
dental team for regular check-
Ups, cleanings and treatments for

YOUR CHILD'S
FIRST VISIT TO
THE DENTIST
A child's first set of teeth,
the primary teeth, are very
important in helping your child
to chew food easily, learn to
speak clearly, and hold space
for permanent teeth.
A child's first visit to the dentist is also important, setting the
/ Richard C. Downing, D.D.S, and
Christopher J. Burton, D.D.S. stage for a lifetime of good dental care. Dr. Bowers and his friendly
staff will make your child s visit a positive experience.

DENTAL SEALANTS CAN LAST A LONG TIME
I have been bonding white sealants to children's molars
for over 9.5 YEARS IN my HOODSPORT dental office. Most of
those sealants are still protecting my patients against cavities
well into adulthood. Sealants are a great preventive procedure
for keeping teeth healthy when done properly.

Here are some tips to help you prepare
your child for a visit to the dentist.
DO
/Try to make dental visits enjoyable for
your child
/Let your child go into the treatment
room alone if the dentist prefers
/Set a good example by brushing and
flossing daily and visiting the dentist
regularly
DO NOT
/Bribe your child into going to the
dentist
/Use a dental visit as a punishment
/Let the child know you feel any
anxiety about the dental visit
/Let anyone tell your child scary stories
about dental visits
KEEP IN MIND THAT ...
.. Orthodontia is a wonderful gift for a young person, the gift of straight
adult teeth. The benefits of having straight teeth are endless, but the
most obvious will be your
improved facial appearance.
You will experience feelings
of well-being and social
acceptance as never before.
You'll notice improvements
in speech, diet, chewing and
dental hygiene.
