Five-nine junior post Marissa Hill cool-handed a pair of free throws with a second left Friday night as the girls came from be- hind to beat league rival Clover Park 64-63 on the road. The hosts tried to ice the Climb- ers' veteran by calling time out after she'd tied the game with her first freebie, but Marissa calm- ly swished the decider and the Climbers had their third league victory in hand. Junior guards Brynna Fuller and Paige Barrett combined for 44 points in the victory. Meanwhile, their counterparts ran away from Clover Park in the boys' go-around here by a 71-57 count behind six-four senior scor- ing machine Curtis Trondsen's 29 points and a combined 27 more from classmate Corey Golob and junior Alex Olson. Alas, Tuesday night saw the two Climber contingents bow to their respective counterparts from Capital High School. The boys went to overtime before losing 51- 54 and the girls lost 31-59 to the once-beaten Cougs. The boys went to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in league, the girls to 6-8 and 3-5. Incidentally, in Friday night,s jayvee contest here the Climber boys went to fully three overtimes before losing. Amazingly, it was the second straight three-overtime game the host Climbers had been involved in in the span of a week - the varsity contingent having prevailed in three just days before in what coaches guessed was a 20- year first here.
