Scholarships are offered The Evergreen State College is now accepting applications for one-year, full-tuition scholarships which will be granted for the first time this spring. Called the E,ergreen Foundation Achievement Scholarships, the 40 awards are offered "to recognize and assist new, full-time students who have made outstanding contributions in community service, academic work or other areas," a.c, cording to College Admissions Director Arnaldo Rodriguez. "We hope these scholarships will open the door to high school seniors, community college students and other potential Evergreen enrollees who have been active citizens or who have developed outstanding talents' in special areas of interest or academic work," he says. Forty $591 awards will be announced May I to cover in-state tuition and fees for three full quarters for applicants selected by a review team of Evergreen faculty, staff and Shelton Kiwanis club makes donations The Shelton Noon Kiwanis Club has contributed $150 to aid a special reading program at the Washington Corrections Center. The funds will be used for books and other materials for an "each one, teach one" program, said Craig Chapman, club president. When one person learns to read in the innovative program, he teaches another person the same skills. That way, reading ability can be brought to a number of persons quickly• The Noon Kiwanis Club also has contributed $100 to the Kiwanis International Foundation. Funds to the foundation are used to support the worldwide youth prbgrams of Kiwanis. She was a lifetime resident of Tacoma, and had retired after 20 years as an alterationist for Rhodes Brothers. Surviving her are three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Holland of Tacoma, Mrs. Lillian Smith of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Lydia Arndt of San Rafael, California; and two brothers, Sam Hansen of Shelton and Josef Hansen of Portland. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mountain View Memorial Park, Tacoma. Miriam L. Fettig Miriam L. Fettig, born May 16, 1905 in Mexico, Indiana, died Friday at the age of 72 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church of Westmont, Illinois and also of Catholic Woman's Club and Sen'Jar Center. Judge Frank Baker, who presided at the trial, granted a motion by defense attorney Ralph Swansgn, Olympia, at the end of the plaintiff's case. The dismissal was on the grounds that the plaintiff had failed to prove a case and failed to prove liability. ....  Charlotte Rauscher, Emil Rauscher in 1938 became a resident of Shelton where he owned and operated the Richfield Gas Station until his retirement in 1968. He was married to Core Luhm in Lewiston, Montana in 1922. He was a' member of Mr. Olive Lutheran Church and a former member of Shelton Chamber of Commerce and the Senior Kiwanis Club of Shelton. for the past two years. Surviving Mrs. Fettig are two sons, Tom Fettig of Phoenix, Arizona and Ted Fettig of Downersgrove, Illinois; four daughters, Miriam Kamin of Shelton, Joan Baries of Dallas, Texas, Carolyn Elsing of Louisville, Kentucky and Dorothy Anderson of Phoenix; 24 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
