CLIMBER MARCI ALLEN drives around Elma's Megan
Sherwood in Monday's league match-up in the Minidome.
The talented sophomore scored 13 points, dished out
several assists and earned high praise from Climber Coach
Margie Severson, who ventures to say Merci and league
scoring leader Cathy Cole of the C imbers are perhaps the
best guard combo in the league.

As she has done all year,
junior guard Cathy Cole played
the pivotal role in that fast-break
offense, scoring 27 points -just
under her league-leading average
of better than 28 per game.
Playing an extremely strong
floor game was guard mate Merci
Allen, who added 13 points
herself and dished off a number
of assists. Donna Standley added
six, mostly on mid-range
jumpers, and Julie Sandquist and
Karen Evankovich scored two
apiece.
Shelton's jayvees, meanwhile,
chalked up victory number three
- and in most convincing
fashion - by peppering the net
for a season-high 50 points to
beat Elma's jayvees 50-11.

Tuesday, the Owls were
victimized by a freak incident
last Friday and it cost them a
possible victory against Pe Ell,
and then they lost badly to Bush
of Seattle the following night.
In Pe Eli's thrilling 72-71
victory, a late.game disruption
came back to plague the hosts
and ruined Knight's valiant
comeback effort, led by scoring
leaders Hans Mak (28) and Jay
Rothrock (17).
The Owls were fast-breaking
for an uncontested lay-in and
appeared to have the cripple
when referees whistled the play
dead and awarded the hosts a
technical-foul .shot. PeEll's
bench, it seems, had unloaded
over a defensive play and the
officials had taken exception
with the display.
However, the Owls missed
the technical shot and thus came
up with nothing when they
almost certainly would have had
two points - twice their margin
of defeat.
Senior Mak, number three in
scoring among local A and B
school players with an average of
17.8 points per game, hit 10-16
from the floor and 8-10 from
• the line while pacing both teams
in rebounding as well, with 12
boards.
Rothrock's 17-point
production was more than two
points over his 14.7 average
overall, good for sixth place
among local A and B school
players.
The next night, perhaps
suffering a letdown after their
narrow defeat, the Owls fell
behind early to Bush of Seattle
and lost 74-55.
