Six burly Russian sailors came aboard to get Kudirka (not three as shown in the film). They chased him all over the ship and Kudirka ran for his life, trying to get to the place on the ship where Captain Eustis had told him to go over the side, to be picked up by the patrol boat. He had the protection of a C.G. lifejacket but when he got to the side of the ship where he was to go over, he hesitated. By this time it was very dark and cold on. this November night and, due to the language barrier, it may be that Kudirka was not sure the rescue boat would be waiting in the black, icy water. His hesitation gave his pursuers the time they needed to catch him. He was beaten unmercifully, much more se,erely than shown, says Floor, bound and gagged and dragged back unconscious to the Russian sailing fortress. Kudirka was in a Soviet prison for the next three years and was given up for dead by those who witnessed his brutal capture. However, through the untiring and relentless efforts of a group of American-Lithuanians, he was finally released and he and his family were allowed to come to the United States. They are now living in the Bronx burrough of New York City. Young Tony Floor is the son of Antonie and Thelma Floor of Union. At long last, construction has started on the new inn for the Alderbrook site, and from the appearance of preliminary and foundation work, it will be a good-sized facility. The old inn had a lot of sentimental value for local residents and visitors but nostalgia could not support the sagging floors and cramped quarters indefinitely. It will be a source of pride to South Shore people to have a fine new restaurant and inn at the old storybook setting of Alderbrook. Not to be outdone by this development, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Oblizalo of the Robin Hood Trailer Court and Cottage location are remodeling and refurbishing the old Beckman cottages on the property which were so popular to vacationers many years ago. Oblizalo is leaving the exterior much the same, retaining the English cottage-type charm with slopinl cedar-shake, A-frame inside will be new but the cozy appeal of cottage with rn0 appurtenances.
