It has been at least a decade
since the North Mason girls basket-
ball team made the district tourna-
ment. That is, until Thursday’s game
against Olympic.
The Bulldogs rallied late and
double-doubles from Adrianne and
Adrianna Tupolo propelled North
Mason to a 52-45 win against Olym~
pic, securing a spot in the district
tournament next week.
“First time in over 12 years, so I’m
excited,” North Mason coach Alex
Fitzhugh told the Journal. “They
earned it man, they were great.
We’ve grown a lot from the first game,
maturity-wise. It’s just our bounce
passes and keeping our eyes up and
filling the open lanes. We’re playing
ball and even coming down to a jump
layup on a fast'break, just textbook.
They’re finally coming around and
it’s just an honor to coach them.” ’

Baumgart said. “Softball is in my

Calling it one of the biggest ac-
complishments of her life, Shelton
High School senior Ally Baumgart
is taking her prowess‘on the softball
field to Longview, where she’ll suit
up for the Lower Columbia College
Red Devils’ softball team.
“I chose LCC because it’s just
far enough from home to give me
the sense of being on my own, but
not far enough where I can’t see my
family,” Baumgart, said in a text
message to the Journal. “The pro-
gram is very supportive of athletes
being actual humans with jobs and
being really school-oriented. They
offer study sessions and are aware
that we aren’t just athletes, we’re
people.”
