Jim Shrum, printing foreman, is working with the Journal's 12 x 18 inch Davidson offset cylinder press in this picture. Offset printing is accom- plished with a photographic plate as distinguish- ed from letter-press printing, which is done di- rectly off metal type. It is a sturdy, durable small press designed for short runs. • :_! AT RIGHT, A sa Pearson is readying a letterhead for the highly versatile Weben- doffer Little Giant, which c=ln handle stocks from ex- tremely thin onionskin to heavy 6-ply cardboard up to 12 x 18 inches. It will handle jobs as 12 x 18 inches and paper stock from thin skin to 8-ply cardboard. BIGGEST of Journal job printing presses is the Miehle Pony, capable of forms as large as 24 x 34 inches, on which Chuck Schwarz is shown feeding & 8's state-wide publication, the Jig-A-Jig. The Shelton high school newspa~ Highclimber, is also printed on this press. These five machines give a riety of prses types which can handle virtually any kind of printing jol~, are welcome to drop in and watch them operate anytime.
