Mary M. Knight School:
Students take lead in talks
between parents, teachers
Student-led parent-teacher
conferences are scheduled for
February 13-15 at Mary M.
Knight School in Matlock.
The format of the students
leading the meetings between
their parents and teachers,
which had proved successful in
other schools, was implemented
at MMK three years ago, said
Superintendent Carol Ersland.
"We have found that for the
majority of students, this allows
them to take responsibility and
be accountable for their grades
and progress," Ersland said. "It
also allows them to show par-
ents what they are doing in class
with projects or lessons."
Classes will be dismissed ear-
ly at 11:45 a.m. each day for the
conferences, which will be sched-
uled from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. on
Tuesday and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
on Wednesday and Thursday.
