Mary M. Knight School: Students take lead in talks between parents, teachers Student-led parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for February 13-15 at Mary M. Knight School in Matlock. The format of the students leading the meetings between their parents and teachers, which had proved successful in other schools, was implemented at MMK three years ago, said Superintendent Carol Ersland. "We have found that for the majority of students, this allows them to take responsibility and be accountable for their grades and progress," Ersland said. "It also allows them to show par- ents what they are doing in class with projects or lessons." Classes will be dismissed ear- ly at 11:45 a.m. each day for the conferences, which will be sched- uled from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Knight: * The Christmas music pro- gram that was blown away by high winds in December has been rescheduled as a spring concert on March 8. * Students of the Month for" December in the elementary school included kindergartner Willow Boothe, first-graders Cole Ruthruff and Jason Shaw, second-grader Dallison Boylan- Kelly, third-grader Timothy Oien, fourth-grader Kayla Kiliz, fifth-grader Thad Beste and sixth-grader Nick Dierkop. • School Board Recognition Month proclaimed by Governor Christine Gregoire in Janu- ary was celebrated at MMK with certificates and words of thanks given to board members Jim Frost, Chris Willey, Diana Goldy, Joe Rothrock and Rick Johnson. • Parents who want to be more aware of their children's grades and missing homework can take advantage of an Inter- net program called, "Family Ac- cess."
