This year's levy request is
approximately one-third of the
amount requested last year.
Surely we can gather enough
people and inform the voters so
that this levy can pass.

Next meeting of the Tahuya
Community Club should be of
interest to all fishing and even
most non-fishing people on the
canal.
Speakers from the Northwest
Indian Fisheries Commission and
the Skokomish Indian Tribe will
give a presentation on Indian
fishing rights. The speakers have
said they will be more than
happy to answer any questions
on this seemingly never-ending
controversial subject.
Scheduled for Tuesday,
February 14, the meeting will
begin at 8 p.m. at the Tahuya
Firehall.
The Tahuya Community
Club is looking for a piano.
They'd like to have one donated
but would be willing to pay if
the price is right. If you know of
one available please call Perl

Maurer at 275-3331.
Also slated for the firehall,
the local firefighters will sponsor
a "Sweetheart Ball" on February
18. Live music will be provided
by the Paul Maurer group with a
ham dinner thrown in. Donations
of $10 a couple are being asked
with tickets available at both
stores in Tahuya.
If you're hungry for a nice
sahnon steak or a whole baked
one, all you have to do is go out
in the canal because with so
many in now one must have
your name on it.
Using a "pink-lady" or a
"deep-six" along with a cut plug
seems to bring them if you go
down about 60 feet. Most caught
have herring in them so that's
good news because "where
there's bait there's fish."
Surprisingly not too many
dogfish are lousing up the sport.
Salmon are being caught on
both incoming and outgoing
tides. They are mouthing the
herring so don't be too hasty in
setting the hooks and be sure the
hooks are good and sharp. You'll
run into some little shakers, too,
but hang in there for the big
ones which are ranging from six
to 12 pounds and bright as a
silver dollar, to say nothing of
being worth more.
George Andrew can thank
Dick Swanson for the
15-pounder he hooked into last
Sunday. Can you believe he
forgot to take his net?
Anyway, George had two
lines out and after Dick netted
the above he picked up his pole
to lind he'd hooked into a seal.
George had his dog with him and
every time the seal would surface

and see the dog he'd take off
like a shot. It was kinda like a
Keystone Cop situation until the
seal finally broke the line and
took off.
Incidentally, Dick had
already limited out for the day.
Other limits have been taken
several times these last ten days,
or so, by Wes Shuettke with his
brother, Roger, who's not doing
too badly either.
Quite a few birthdays out
here last month. Merle
Rodepouch, Wilma Baker, Alice
Fritz and Pete Jerome, just to
name a few, with Louise Thomas
up Maggie Lake way having her
annual day on Friday the 13th.
February started out with a
couple of birthdays already with
Bob Garbrick and Jim Pirtle
celebrating.
All those cards, calls and
prayers paid off for Bob Miller.
He's now back home after
hospitalization and extensive
doctor care in Seattle. Bob's
feeling and looking better than
he has for four years. Being able
to drive his car again is also
making life a lot easier and he
wants to thank everyone for
their kind thoughtfulness these
past weeks.
Get-well wishes go to Don
Wise who, after being
hospitalized a few days from a
gall bladder attack, came home
and got that nasty flu going
around.
Father to waitress: "Wrap up
the rest of the steak for the
dog."
Small boy: "Oh, great! We're
going to get a dog."
