Here are some tips to help you prepare
your child for a visit to the dentist.
q
DO
q Try to make dental visits enjoyable for
your child
Let your child go into the treatment
room alone if the dentist prefers
Set a good example by brushing and
flossing daily and visiting the dentist
regularly
DO NOT
Bribe your child into going to the
dentist
Use a dental visit as a punishment
Let the child know you feel any
anxiety about the dental visit
/Let anyone tell your child scary stories
about dental visits
g
YOUR CHILD'S
FIRST VISIT TO
THE DENTIST
A child's first set of teeth, the
primary teeth, are very important
in helping your child to chew food
easily, learn to speak clearly, and
hold space for permanent teeth.
A child's first visit to the dentist
is also important, setting the stage for a
care. Dr. Bowers and his friendly staff will
positive experience.

TOOTH DECAY IS A BIG PROBLEM
III!1
• • • • •
IN MASON COUNTY
Page B-4 - Shelton-Mason County Journal
- Thursday, February 9, 2012
Every year residents of
Mason County spend millions
of dollars at dental offices in
this area to fix teeth that have
decay problems that could have
been prevented by consuming
less sugar. During my 30 years
of practice in Hoodsport,
there has been an increase in sugar
consumption, especially in younger
people. Much of this increase is from
drinking soda pop, sports drinks and
energy drinks that are all high in
sugar content.
~Since 1982~
For example:
Sugar Content of these popular drinks:
• 16 oz Coke, Red Bull, Mt. Dew, or Full
Throttle have at least 18 teaspoons of
sugar each.
,16 oz. Lipton Green Tea has 20 teaspoons
of sugar.
,16 oz. Gatorade has 9 teaspoons of sugar.
If you or your children are drinking
sugary drinks daily, tooth decay is
inevitable. If you avoid sugar, you
will keep your teeth healthier;
have fewer trips to the dentist and
save money.
