On Saturday, Feb. 4, head coach Misty Pagel took 24 cheerleaders to Everett for the state competition, where the Lady Highclimb- ers finished in fifth. "They did pretty well," Pagel said. "We had to change a lot of the routine on Friday morning but they really pulled it off." AthIetic code violations from members of the squad earlier in~ the week reduced the team's numbers for the state competition, which led to the Lady Highclimbers beginning practice at 5 a.m. on Friday, Feb, 3, instead of at 6 a.m. in order to rework the routine. "I'm very proud of them for what they did," Pagel said. At the competition, the Lady Highclimbers per- formed a 2 1/2 minute rou- tine. One minute was de- voted to cheering, while the remaining time was a mu- sic-based performance con- sisting of jumps, dancing, stunts and a pyramid. "We scored a 188," Pagel said. "This was about the same as what we've been getting all season, so that was pretty cool."
