Miles' harassment claim dismissed PUb's Johns Prairie site progressing By NATALIE JOHNSON During the first Port of Shelton meeting of 2011, commissioner Jack Miles stood up and said that he intended to file a harassment com- plaint and request a restraining order against pert executive director John DobsorL On Wednesday, January 19, Mason County District Court dismissed the complaint without prejudice to either part, which means that ei- ther Miles or Dobson can reopen the complaint in the future. Miles' petition for a temperary protection order against Dobson, filed on January 6, 2011 with district court alleges that Dobson said sev- eral times ' rou better watch your bacl " Miles also stated that Dobson asked Dennis Frost, an employee of Olympic Air, a tenant at the pert, to videotape Miles. In the petition, Miles states that Dobson said to him on January 3, "the people he has watch (sic) could hurt you if you don't res' grL" Miles also mentions Steve Bloomfield of Seattle Shellfish in the petition, saying that Bloomfield followed him around town and to public meetings, and asked him to resign in a pert meeting. Dobson, Frost and Bloomfield all submitted declarations to the court in response to Miles' allegations. In his declaration Dobson says: "On two oc- casions I offered a warning to Mr. Miles because of my concern for his safety and his reputation." Dobson says that after vandalism on port property by what appeared to be an Earth Lib- eration Front activist, he spoke to Miles. felt he needed to recognize that certain members of the public in Mason County could be affiliated with organizations that cause seri- ous harm to damage to institutions and facili- ties that they believe harm the environment," Dobson says. Dobson also denied asking Frost or Bloom- field to stalk Miles. "It is disturbing for me to be assailed by Mr. Miles in the manner which is now a part of the court record," Dobson sai& Frost says in his declaration that he did tape commissioner Miles during Port of Shelton, along with several other members of the public. Most pert meetings include several video cam- eras, still cameras and tape recorders, along with Frest. "I have never videotaped Mr. Jack Miles on any occasion outside of the Port of Shelten com- mission meeting room," he says. "My videotap- ing is not focused on Mr. Miles any more than it is focused on any other person who speaks or participates in the commission meetings." Bloomfield's declaration states that he does regularly attend pert commission meetings, but that he has only seen Miles outside ofpui> lic meetings on rare occasions. Bloomfield said that he asked for Miles' res- ignation, not to harass him, but out of concern for the port. '2 asked for his resignation to avoid embar- rassment to himself and the Port of Shelton" he says. "At no time has Mr. Dobson ever asked me to follow Jack Miles aroun& Atno lime has Mr. Dobson ever asked me to blackmail Jack Miles." The judge apparently agreed and dismissed the petition. The future spins out of control, -n, Love, By NATALIE JOHNSON After months of work on the site of the future Mason County PUb 3 Johns Prai- rie Operations Center, con- struction crews are start- ing to make some obvious progress, including build- ing concrete walls for the first buildings on the site. "We're at the point where things are going to start getting interesting," said Nicole Brown, senior project manager with OAC Services Inc, which is man- aging the construction on the site. Brown attended Tues- day's PUb 3 commission meeting to give the com- missioners a presentation on the progress on the proj- ect. The project began with crews laying underground pipes and plumbing and creating catch basins. All of this work was soon buried underground, and while a lot of work was going on, Brown said, it was hard for the casual observer to tell. Brown shared aerial pictures from each month of construction on the site, which particularly showed the changes.
