The Mason County Sheriffs Office
and the Mason County Coroner are
asking for the public’s help to identify
a dead man’s body that was found on
Harstine Island onJ an. 16.
The Mason County Coroner posted
pictures of the John Doe on Facebook
and asked for the public’s help Jan.
21. The post has been shared 541
times but hasn’t produced any leads,
according to Mason County Coroner
Jaime Taylor. The body was found on
the beach near East Camden Way on
Harstine Island.
The deceased man is about 6 feet
tall, weighing 170 pounds and wear—
ing dark sweatpants, black Under
Armour boxers, wool socks, a white
shirt with Hollister Bike Week 2005
printed on it, a dark zip-up hoodie,
a long-sleeve button-up flannel over
the top, and a green camouflage ban-
dana facemask.' He also had white
Skullcandy headphones.
Taylor said there was no option for

and her office is awaiting results of a
DNA test. Once the DNA is profiled,
they will cross-reference it with the
missing person’s database and other
databases to see whether a match can
be found.
“Normally, we’ve got fingerprints
or dental, those are not available,”
Taylor said. “We’re hoping to get
someone who can recognize the John
Doe. I can say that this is the lon-
gest time that Mason County has had
a hard time getting somebody that
hasn’trecognized the John Doe. We
put it out on social media, we usual-
ly get somebody that says I saw that
person walking down the street or,
that’s so-and-so. We want to be able
to find some family and have some
closure.” ,

Donate cans to‘help youths
The Kristmas Town Kiwanis Club is collecting do-
nations of aluminum cans to benefit programs and
scholarships for Mason County youths from 9 am. to
1 p.m. Feb. 19 in the parking lot at Bob’s Tavern on
First Street in downtown Shelton."
Polar Bear-Plunge benefits

The Hood Canal Lions Club hosts the 12th annual
Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser from 11 am. to 2 p.m.
Saturday at the Alderbrook Resort and Spa. >
Proceeds benefit Mason County Emergency Ser-
viées. The plunge is open to anyone who raises at
least in donations. .The top emergency worker
fundraiser, and the top resident fundraiser, will be
recognized. .
The event includes free coffee, hot chocolate, clam

Master Gardeners
host winter workshops
Mason County Master Gardeners host annual
winter workshops on Zoom from 9 to 10:30 am. Sat-
urdays. Bringing life and color to your garden is the
topic Saturday, and planting vegetables on Feb. 19.

$1,500 Grant available for
woman continuing school
The Shelton Chapter GQ of the Philanthropic Or-
ganization is offering a $1,500 grant to a local wom-
an to continue her education:
To qualify, the woman must be a Mason County
resident; a high school graduate or equivalent ed-
ucation; and be enrolled in the academic
year at an accredited academic or technical college.
The money can be used for tuition, books,
transportation, childcare or other expenses while
attending. The award will be sent directly to the
recipient. ‘
Applications are available at Shelton and
CHOICE high schools, Olympic College Shelton or

'May 2 is the deadline to apply. Applications can

12-week healing seminar
Faith Lutheran Church in Shelton is hosting its
semiannual 12-Week “Healing from Loss” seminar
that begins at42 p.m. today both online through Zoom
and in-person at the church at Connection St.
