, , \ ' Myrna Wallin Bennett Myrna Bennett died after a short battle with cancer on Sun- day, January 30, 2022, at home in Shelton, surrounded by fam— ily. She was 86 years oldvand had. lived in Shelton on Little Skoo- kum Inlet for most of her life. Myrna was born August 14, 1935, in Olympia to Robert and Ruth (Dana) Wallin. She attended Irene S. Reed High School in Shel- ton and graduated in 1.953. After highschool she attended the Uni- versity of Washington and gradu- ated in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree. She married Richard Ben- nett on August 18th, 1956 at the Shelton Methodist Church. They eventually settled in the Seattle area with their three children. While raising children, Myrna was an elementary teacher in Fed- eral Way, Auburn and Kirkland. She then worked for a travel agency, as an activities director in a retirement home, and for many years, as a receptionist for Dick’s CPA firm in Bellevue. Later in life,'Myrna and Dick} returned to her childhood home on Little Skookum and built a new house on the family property, next door to her sister, Marcia Booth. For the next 20 years, she was a partner in the' family business, Wallin’s Oysters and Clams. She did everything from beach work to bookwork and added a little pizazz to the business, hosting many com- pany_parties. She greatly admired the men and women who worked on the farm. ' ' p . Myrna was a'member of Delta Gamma Sorority, Where she made lifelong friends. She was a member of Chapter B, PEO, a philanthrop- ic organization, and for several years was a docent at the Governor’s ' Mansion in Olympia. She was member of the Mason County Historical Society and the Mason County Pioneer group. She enjoyed her lun- cheons with the class of 1953. She was very fond of her classmates and valued their companionship. Myrna was passionately interested in current events. She loved studying American history, reading English mysteries, knitting and needlepoint, and gathering with family and friends, especially if she did not have to do the cooking. She was quick-witted and a sympathetic listener. She enjoyed 'ending each day watching'PBS News hour with“ a tall glass of Sauvignon Blanc. She was a lovely, gracious lady who had a real spark for life. We will miss her always. Myrna was preceded in death by her husband Dick. She is' survived by her three children: ‘Ann Kenny (Rob Kenny) of Woodinville, Mary Bennett (Gordon Martinen) of Shelton, and Matt Bennett (Teri Adolfo Bennett) of Sebastopol, California. She is also survived by granddaugh- ter Andrea Ayers (Nathan Ayers) of Puyallup, sister, Marcia Booth and « niece Sharon'Booth, and by her beloved cats, Latte and Mocha. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shelton Kitten Rescue or to the animal rescue of your choice. At Myrna’s request, there will be no service. ‘ Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 — Shelton-Mason County Journal — Page A—39 ~ Obituaries ; Ethel Iona (Lucas) Zachry Ethel Iona (Lucas) Zachry, 83,- passed from this life to glory, on J anu- ary 30, 2022. ‘ ' Ethel was born on August 26, 1938 in Seattle, Washington, where she would reminisce about riding her bike across the Aurora Avenue Bridge between Seattle and Ballard. Growing up. in a family in minis- try, Ethel graduated from West Coast Bible and High School in Fresno, California, with the class of ‘56. Shortly thereafter in 1957, she-met and married the man she would spend the next 51 years with, DeLoss Zachry, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2008. Ethel and her husband moved to Shelton in 1965, where she re- mained until her death. She is survived by her five children DeLoss Zachry, Jr. of Shelton, Washington, Melinda Wentz of Lincoln City Or; egon, Melonie Carroll, formerly of Shelton, Washington, Robert Zachry of Clatskanie, Oregon, and Paul Zachry of Shelton, Washington, and also eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great- grandchild who did not survive infancy. Additionally, she was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Lucas, and survived by three'other; Rhonda Patnode, Jennifer Leitz, and Bobbie Merrill. Ethel is remembered fondly in many respects; as a teacher at Shelton Christian School, as Supervisor of the grade 2-4 learning center where her students loved how she made learning fun, keeping touch with her and adoring her for years, as a loving mom and grandma who made sure that all of her children and grandchildren had 'a special birthday . celebration to enter their teen years, and as a follower ‘of Jesus Christ. Ethel sought to love her Savior by helping those in need, teaching and being active in her faith community, and living a life that produced fruit in a Spirit-filled life.
