Are Shelton students fair-weather fan
" 've noticed something un-
fortunate about Shelton
. High School students.
When a team is doing well,
such as the 2012 football team,
the stadium is packed with
fans cheering on the High-
climbers.
And when a team is strug-
gling, such as the 2014 girls'
basketball team, the stands are
sparsely filled with morose fans
making little to no noise.
This was especially apparent
Feb. 5 during the Lady High-
climbers' senior night game in
the Mini Dome.
After the game, head coach
Aaron Leth estimated 15 stu-
dents attended, and he was
sad his team wasn't supported
more.
"I would like to say 'thank
you' to all
the parents
and fans that
came to se-
nior night,"
Leth said
in an email
Feb. 6. "But
it would have
By EMILY been nice to
HANSON have more
support from
our student
body to show their apprecia-
tion to our seniors who have
worked so hard for the past
four years."
All this begs the question:
Are Shelton students fair-
weather fans?
Do they not consider how
much work goes into practices
and games, despite the outcome
of those games?
Do they not care that th,
classmates look up from th
bench and have little moti
tion from the fans to contir
playing because few fans a
tend the games or because
ones that are in attendano
silent?
I know the Shelton bask
ball teams struggled to wiI
games this season.
I know it can be difficl
to root for a team when
there is little hope the t
will win.
However, even the lea
skilled team can surpris
you if you give it the opt
tunity.
