Not even an icy start could derail
the Owls.
The Mary M. Knight girls bas-
ketball team scored just six points
in the opening quarter of its Dis-
trict IV quarterfinal game with
on Feb. 6 at
MMK Gym.
The Owls' defense, however,
pitched a first quarter shutout and
MMK surged to a 49-27 win, ad-
vancing to face Nasalle in the semi-
final round.
"The Three Rivers~game was def-
initely a struggle for not only me,
but our entire team," MMK senior
guard Kaylee Sowle said. "We had a
very slow start and lots of team er-
rors, but were able to pull out a win.
I have to give it to my teammates

sibly the worst I've ever played in
our gym, as a team we won and are
moving on to the next round, and
that's all that matters in the post-
season."

high 15 points, while Mary Koonrad
added 11 and Lisa Oppelt scored
eight for MMK.
The Owls, who improved to 16-
4, were originally scheduled to play
Naselle on Feb. 9. but the game was
postponed due to the snowstorm
that impacted all of Western Wash-
ington.
It was originally rescheduled
for Monday, and then Tuesday,
but was again postponed due to in-
clement weather. As of the Shelton-
Mason County Journal's deadline,
School.
"The weather has made every-
thing extremely difficult and has
put immense pressure on us mov-
ing forward," Sowle said. "With only
an hour of practice on (Feb. 8), no
practice all weekend or (Monday),
and school already being called for
(Tuesday), we're sitting in a very
tough spot.
"I believe the champion.ship
game will still be Thursday. Of
course that's where we want to
be, but both teams advancing to
the championship will be forced to
play back-t0-back games, and for
us, that means back-to-back games
with an hour of practice in the last
five days."
Mary M. Knight faced Naselle
twice previously this year.
